This is a simple two wire design, which made it super easy to install. I ran a test by opening a small propane bottle next to it. It picked up the gas immediately. Unlike the original unit that came with my trailer, which didn't pass the test, I feel safe now that this one is installed.

We experienced a natural gas leak in our basement, the whole house smelled like rotten eggs and followed the smell to the basement where the smell was much worse. The alarm was plugged into an outlet only 4 feet away from leak #1 and 8 feet from leak #2 and the number remained at 0 and it never beeped and didn’t do anything - it was on/plugged into a working outlet, lights were on and it read 0. Pretty disappointing, thankfully my nose worked but was hoping to rely on this if for some reason I was wasn’t home and my security system would pick up the alarm if there was a leak, but seems that’s not going to be the case :(

UPDATE: After three months of usage detector suddenly began going off randomly when gas was not on. I tested it and several rooms of the house far from the gas stove in the kitchen and it still would go off randomly after being plugged in for about 30 minutes. Return window is closed so I’m stuck with a useless piece of junk. I recommend finding a different unit. ::::Wife was nervous after housekeeper bumped a stove knob with her butt and filled the kitchen with gas before someone noticed. I set this up near the gas stove in the kitchen. Turned on gas without ignition and in less than 60 seconds the alarm was blaring plenty loud in our 3/2 home. If you have a larger, or multi-floor house, I recommend you test the alarm to be sure it is loud enough for you to hear in your environment, if not, maybe buy several or find a more robust solution. This could be a life saver.
