Jack Y: I am not a therapist or DBT counselor, but I a teacher and coach. I love the skills and practice of this concept. Ever since I read about DBT, I have been applying the concepts to my students, athletes and own myself. I am by far not an expert of DBT, but I feel I have been effective conveying the skills because of the work by the author. She has made the ideals simple, realistic and applicable. I have seen great results as well. This book is the best I've ever read on DBT. If you want to learn more about this fantastic and humane form of therapy, get this book. You don't have to be a shrink either. Just somebody that want to improve in life and help other get better too.

Amazon Customer: I took a workshop recently with the author and I bought the book to reinforce what I had learned. As a counsellor, I found the book helpful in explaining how to teach clients to regulate emotions. Sherri is easy to understand and she gives suggestions that you can implement immediately with your clients. This is the most practical book for counsellors I've read in a long time. I think clients would find it helpful as well. My only criticism is the price. It's a small booklet, but cost $43.

Bala: One of the best books to learn the concepts of DBT. The content is easy to understand. Though the book might be pricy for some, it's worth investing when your objective is to learn DBT.
DBT practitioners and Students of Counselling Psychology would benefit the most from this book.

Gerry Kerr: This is a potentially transforming book. I recommend it to anybody interested in the subject. The penny finally dropped for me on a number of concepts I have not properly understood for years. A client, like me or a therapist would find the approach of the author both practical and heart warming. The clear theoretical background is matched by the practical down to Earth and very helpful skills training.

Tony Young: Our doctoral students chose this book as an adjunct to our practicum class, and all of us found it excellent from start to finish.
There are great explanations of central aspects of DBT without oversimplification. Please don't be mislead by the term "simple" in the title. The author has accomplished one of those things we see occasionally in which secondary authors - those not involved in the development of a theory or technique - are better able to explain the concepts than primary authors. I would also add that the techniques are not just for borderline disorders anymore: it would be useful for most of our clients, frankly.
I would recommend its use in psychotherapy classes at the master's or doctoral level, whether for future psychologists, counselors, or social workers, or for anyone practicing in the fields who wants to learn about using DBT.

Made In Louisiana: DBT Made Simple provides an excellent introduction to DBT. The book uses plain language and clear examples of DBT in action, making it accessible for both clinicians and clients. The book includes exercises to practice DBT skills and also provides answers to frequently asked questions and common stumbling blocks.
While the book is not a substitute for more intensive DBT training or treatment, it provides a thorough introduction to the therapy. I have read several other books on DBT (including Linehan's textbook on CBT for BPD, the skills training manual, and the DBT workbook), and this is, by far, my favorite. I very much appreciate Van Dijk's ability to present the material in a way that is clear and interesting. I also appreciate that it is more affordable than some of the other DBT books on the market. For these reasons, I recommend this book highly for anyone wanting to know more about DBT, and perhaps for those who have no access to a therapist trained in DBT.
