frances: I truly loved this book. The comics is so raw. I started reading and had no idea it was a memoir. I also listened to the audio while reading this and I loved both. This graphic novel can truly give hope to many youth in similar family situations.

momreadsbooksinbtwn: I absolutely loved this graphic novel. Don’t let the cartoon-like cover fool you, it is a coming-of-age memoir filled with quite a few depressing moments. I didn’t notice the full title of the book until I started writing this review. I would say that this is meant for a more mature audience, middle grade and higher. My husband attended college in Worcester, Mass (where the author grew up), so I was always curious about this graphic novel and Jarrett Krosoczka. I love seeing him on his social media posts wearing his Boston Red Sox cap. I think this was a thought-provoking book and it gives an honest presentation of what it’s like to grow up with relatives battling addiction. The book is a great story of perseverance and living your dream. So awesome that J. Krosoczka is making a living doing his dream job, as an author and illustrator. Honestly, I cannot wait to read his next memoir, Sunshine.

DCH: I loved this book it was so intro read about the author and his life about how his mother was drug addict and his father was absent for most of his life until he was a teenager. His grandparents raised him and he looked to them as his parents and created a bond so tight with them her will never forget. It was such an amazing read and the author put so much detail into his pictures and included real notes and picture into the chapters and had meaning behind certain things in his story like in the chapter breaks he includes pineapple wallpaper that was in this grandmothers kitchen.

#booklover: Hey Kiddo is a graphic novel revolving around the life of Jerret Krosocza and is an autobiography. It is interesting and fast paced, yet very emotional. The drawings are absolutely beautiful, and the writing is even better. I read it in one sitting and was amazed by how good it was. All the illustrations are coloured in burnt-orange, a significance that is very important. I would definitely recommend reading the authors notes and acknowledgments. Very interesting, tear-jerking read.

Pese a todos los defectos de los adultos a su alrededor logra desarrollarse e ir resolviendo su relación con cada uno de ellos. Para quien desee realismo tolerable y una historia de superación personal que puede ser motivación para seguir adelante cuando las circunstancias familiares son desfavorables.
