I use these for all my keys (house, car, office/lab keys). I pair it with a carabiner (the one that came with it failed long before the keychain itself did) and clip it to my belt loop. It has enough length to stay in my pocket while sitting, but this may depend on sitting position as well as dimensions of pant pocket openings and belt loop placement near pockets. They fit perfectly in my old pants and about 90% of the time in my current pants. Even so, the carabiner keeps it attached if it falls out, so there's just a jangling noise as it slaps gently against the side of your leg while you walk. The stay in my pocket 100% of the time while standing.

I have this uncanny ability to misplace/lose my knife approximately four to five times per hour since it's to much of a hassle to take it in and out of my pocket repeatedly and if I forget to close the blade I risk injuring myself. I figured that the best solution would be to tether the knife to myself, though any implementation with a static connection (e.g. a wallet or key chain) would be liable to get snagged on something. That being said, I knew I needed something analogous to a tool balancer writ small, similar to a lighter leash but with a more robust construction intended for industrial applications.
