Amazon Customer: The heart shape is not just cute, it's practical. You can make little 'waffle sandwich slices' -- either eat one of the five sections as an appetizer and make sandwiches out of the remaining four hearts, or tear just one of the dividing lines and you can then fold all the sections together in a zig-zag to insert toppings between.

The unit is high quality as well. Ceramic cooking plate, so less fear re. accidentally scratching it as there's no Teflon etc. here (though you still shouldn't use metal utensils).

Contrary to the manual, I have never needed to spray or rub oil directly onto the unit before cooking. Not even once. Instead, I blend oil or a butter into the batter itself. I've successfully used this thing to make brownies, too. Never underestimate the usefulness of a good waffle iron!

Colleen Rittenour: The unit is very solid - like appliances used to be made. The waffles are thin which we really like. I bake GF and use these waffles as my bread. They make great sandwiches. After having the unit a couple of years it began to stick in a section of the waffle. We contacted the company and after asking us a few questions they promptly sent us another unit. We were treated so respectfully - the customer service was exceptional. I was delighted because I really like the waffle maker. It transformed my need for making GF "bread". It is hard to find non stick surfaces that are PFOA and PTFE free and this one is. We are very pleased.

Fliegi: Hätten das Gerät gerne genommen, da es offensichtlich keine schädlichen Materialien enthält. Leider war die Beschichtung verkratzt und mit Macken, sehr befremdlich bei einem so teuren Gerät. Also ging es zurück und wir haben ein Gerät von Breville behalten

Although it doesn't come apart, it is easy to clean with a sponge and a kitchen towel.

It is small so it stores easily

It makes just the right amount of waffle for one person or child (about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of batter makes a waffle depending on how thick you make your mix.)

It is extremely straightforward and easy to use.

I'm not scared of getting burned by it like my last waffle maker that liked to close on me unexpectedly.

It's sturdy and heavy. Over all it appears to be well constructed.

Cons:

When you first get it, run a test batch of batter through a few times, after you clean it, to remove all the chemical residue. When I first heated it up the chemical odor had me opening up windows and turning on a fan - you definitely do not want that in your cooking! My test batch of batter was 1 cup of self-rising flour, 1/3 cup vegetable oil, water. That was enough for three waffles but could have stretched it to four waffles with a thinner batter. Most appliances like this I would run a test batch of batter through first, not just this particular waffle iron.

S. ead: The instruction booklet said to wipe it first with a damp cloth and to NEVER immerse it in water (or use soap or anything other than a soft brush or cloth!)as one reviewer claims to have done. I bought it largely because of that review, since the cleanup sounded easy. So anyway I wiped it with a clean damp cloth, then dried it with a clean dish towel, then per the instructions "smeared it with butter". I made sure everything was coated well, and then plugged it in, turned it to high as instructed, made the batter, waited until the ready light came on, opened it and it looked like there was cooked food on the grids. I ALWAYS make a "test" waffle first, mainly to clean the grid, and I did this. There was a baked-on food-looking deposit on the surface of the waffle when it was done. So I made another one, and it got more of the deposit off. I made another one and even more came off. By the 4th waffle, there was hardly any on it so I am assuming it is now clean. But it took an entire batch of (wasted! Expensive!) waffle batter. I'm feeding the test waffles to the fish in our lake. That said, I am pleased with the final result and it is good to have the...
