I didn't really like the Coddington pin, as it is a clip-around, instead of a pin-through, on the retention pin -- but there were no problems with it. Good weight, good quality, stable. Felt secure for a cross-country drive including heavy rains. Negative: It has no reflectors or hi-visibility tape on it. If you push on it, there's a slight side-to-side wobble, which is normal for all of them, but it still felt secure, and did not feel it at all while driving. I really liked the slight elevation/raise to the platform; that made me feel a little more comfortable with the clearance. It comes in a box split in two halves that you need to screw together with the support arm. Was very nervous about trying a cargo hitch platform carrier, but it worked out very well.

Mary Lynn McPherson: Put this together in about 30 min. It would have been nice if they would have made the instructions large enough so that you could see the pictures. You do need two wrenches - One to hold the head of the bolt and one to put on the nut. I ended up using my socket set and another wrench to hold the ball. I had no trouble taking things down in the holes lined up perfectly. We are going to give it a four for now because we haven't taken it on the road yet. I did notice that it sways a bit after you put it in the receiver on the car. We had purchased A hitch stabilizer which took most of the sway out of the basket. All in all, a very sturdy product. We added some reflective tape to it just so people see it. Might be nice if they would put some kind of reflective paint on it-but the tape went on pretty well.

This was the three piece carrier, meaning the two basket halves have to be bolted to the center bar that goes into the hitch. Went together like a champ, all bolts were included, and all holes lined up perfect. It fit in my hitch fine, snug enough to not rattle, but loose enough to all an easy fit ... just right. I did buy the Rola LED light kit, and they did not fit the metal cutouts at all. When inserted, they simply fell out. Would not have worked at all if used as directed. But, I had read previous reviews of this problem, so I had a small supply of plastic ties on hand. Just inserted the lights, secured them with a tie and they worked great.
Finished my first 800 mile trip with the carrier in use, and not problems at all. Lights worked, and didn't even know carrier was installed.
Great product, both carrier and lights since I got them discounted on Amazon Warehouse deals.

esmall:
Taken 2 cross country trips with it, and it has been a wonderful, space freeing basket. It fits 3 Rubbermaid 18 tal totes perfectly. Wrapping the totes in a tarp and using ratchet-straps to secure them to the basket keeps them dry and secure.
I have a class 1 (200lb tongue weight), 1.25" receiver on my vehicle. When the basket is in place, there is some wiggle, but nothing alarming or even noticeable while driving. The basket is of solid build quality (solid steel, good welds, properly fitting pieces, etc) and easy to assemble. After 2 winter driving trips (1500mi and 3000mi) across the midwest, however, I am seeing some corrosion on the hardware. So far it only appears to be on the nuts, and not the bolts. So if necessary, they should be easy to replace.
Total weight of this basket is approx 38lbs. It is not too dificult to hitch by yourself, however, having a second pair of hands is helpful.

Jake Ells: My SUV has wimpy towing capabilities (darn crossovers) and so my hitch is only 1.25" which meant the larger 5 foot luggage racks wouldn't work.
This one is a little smaller at like 4 foot (or something close to that) but it still is pretty big and built solid. One of the things I liked about this model is that the extension rod pushes it out away from the tailpipe (and upwards a little too for better clearance) so you don't have to worry about it hitting something if you go over a bump, or be concerned about your tailpipe melting something on it (think that is a prob with other models).
It is also very sturdy. There are a couple bolts in the middle that hold everything together (so was initially worried about that) but after using it a couple times...have no worries at all. The mesh base is sturdy and it has nice higher side rails that come up and make it easy to secure everything we have needed to haul.
Have used it on the freeway, on dirt roads up mountain passes, and around town (cause it seems we always forget something and have to run to the gas station or grocery store before our adventure starts).
Have used it a couple times...
