J. C.: It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to value for money and exceeding expectations, but this Hario burr grinder Hario Medium Glass Hand Coffee Grinder with Ceramic Burrs, Clear has done it for me.
There are several reasons: build quality seems great; the grinder has a real "quality" feel; usability is great and better than I expected; the coffee is ground very nicely; the bottom pot is solid glass and can hold/store quite a bit of ground coffee (I think it says about 100grams); it can be disassembled and all parts washed in water, and the manual, fresh grinding of the coffee beans actually adds a kind nice "ritual" to the whole experience making it more enjoyable.
I only bought it a week ago but I hope the following deliberation/information is helpful to others. I wanted something to manually grind coffee for use in a Pezzetti Moka pot (I much prefer the coffee this makes to filter coffee; it tastes richer and deeper to me). In the Pezzetti I always use about 2 tablespoons of ground coffee to make my mug and, reading around, I figured out that might be about 10 grams of beans. After reading around a bit more I decided I wanted a burr grinder (grind...

tonydacrow: I am a true coffee enthusiast. I love coffee in all its forms but especially as espresso. (My Italian/Sicilian roots, I'm assuming.) I've owned many coffee grinders over the years for my espresso machines -- including some VERY expensive coffee grinders. In all that time, I haven't discovered a coffee grinder that works better than this one!
Pros:
1) The locking nut on this unit provides absolute grind-size REPEATABILITY, every time. If you brew espresso, you know how important that is.
2) The conical burr set provides great grind-size UNIFORMITY. Again, very important to a good espresso brew.
3) The shape of the burr cutting surfaces "SHAVES" rather than crushes the beans. This helps to better retain the oils in the grounds until extracted in the brewing (which results in a better tasting cup).
4) The unit uses a CERAMIC BURR. That means they don't dull as quickly as steel, won't rust and should last close to a lifetime.
5) The PRICE of this unit is amazing for the quality of the grind.
6) The DESIGN of the unit is very well thought out.
A) A silicon, non-slip cover for the bottom glass keeps the grinder on whatever surface...

Ashley P.: I purchased this mill specifically for grinding spices by hand without an electric grinder (no coffee here). Below are some overall thoughts on it and I've listed out individual spices and even grains that I tried in this mill.
Overall -
*This is a good hand operated mill that is fairly easy to use; it just depends on what you are grinding.
*The handle does squeak, quite a lot, when grinding. This might be fixed with a light application of oil - I dont want to risk oil getting into my spices so I'm not going to bother.
*This grinder (because of the squeaking) is not, in my opinion, "quiet enough to grind next to a sleeping baby" like some reviews have said. It isnt so loud that it would disturb someone in an adjancant room with the door cracked or be heard over the TV or something, but it can sound loud in a perfectly quiet room.
*After grinding for a while the Nut holding the handle on starts to come loose and needs retightened. I had to do this several times while I was grinding the items below.
The Spices I tried-
*Allspice Berries - Worked like a charm! They were very easy to grind and you ended up with a nice fine...
