Minnesotan: As others mentioned it does make a whirring sound when on, but that's ok with me. I had been trying to decide if I buy another stove now (looking for induction benefits and also another large burner), but since the stove I have works ok, I decided to try out this hot plate. It's perfect for my purposes. I cut down my cooking time, have an extra burner, and can store it out of the way when not in use. The controls are not very precise, but I figure my stove's burner isn't either, so I'm still learning exactly which setting to use for different things.

Friendly Ghost 09: Fair warning: You must know that your cookware is induction compatible because the burner will not heat if you do not. I assumed my copper clad stainless would be compatible and it isn't. I had to place a cast iron griddle on the burner until I purchased compatible cookware. This is clearly stated in the description, so it is my assumptions that got me in trouble here, but wow, this is a nice unit.

The burner heats up quickly and it couldn't be any easier to clean. The controls are easy to use, though I do recommend reading the instructions. There are a few settings that will make using it more efficient and responsive to your cooking needs. The area near the controls stays cool too so making adjustments as you are cooking is easy.

If you already know that your cookware is induction compatible, this is a great option. If it is not and you prefer to use your copper/stainless steel cookware, the style with the cast iron burner will be a more economical option.

Isaac L.: Funciona muy bien ya tengo 3 meses sin problema alguno cocinando 4 veces por semana, lo único malo es que no se distribuye completamente el calor aun utilizando sarten para induccion, algunas cosas no se pueden realizar como capear, pero para hacer arroz sopa y cosas que necesiten hervir sirve perfectamente y su limpieza es muy rápida no te preocupas por que se ensucie, la recomiendo.

David: I've never used an Induction Stove, or Hot Plate before. To Test mine, I put one of my pans on it, on high, for 15 seconds, to verify function. Shut off, removed my pan, touched to bottom quickly to see if warm yet. I got a first degree burn on my palm ! Very impressed with inductive heating ! I can't wait to try cooking on it. I got this because my ancient stove heats and cooks unevenly on all four burners. ( electric coil type ). The old stove uses a lot of power, for marginal results. With this, I can get far better cooking results, and use much less electricity ! The old stove takes 15 min to get to cooking temp. This cooker is ready in less than a minute. I may get another, and quit using the old stove completely !

Jasper Marta: It's a sleek, beautiful looking cooktop. Problem is that when you turn it on, the smell that comes out of the back of the unit is nauseating, and unbearable. It negates anything that might be getting cooked and actually smells good on top of it. I am about to go and plug it in outside in hopes that it gets rid of this toxic feeling fume, or else I'm returning it. My daughter felt sick for hours yesterday after walking into the room where it was being used. I really hope this is an anomaly and it stops smelling like an electrical fire is about to spontaneously combust. Horrible.

JoJo: I have used an induction cooktop for many years and had to replace it. I was a little confused by the 1-10 power settings, and was using only temperature to cook with. If you can learn the temps for low, medium low, medium, medium high, high and sear, the power levels are a cinch. Now I cook with the power levels. It turns off and on easily, and the modes are easy to set. I like the timer as it turns the cooktop off when the time is up. The boost button will turn it up to power level 10 for 30 seconds, then back to original level.

The main thing I'm not really happy about is the lowest temperature is not low enough. It starts at 175, but if you want to melt chocolate or maintain a warm sauce, it should be anywhere from 110-140. At the same time though, the temp set for the cooktop is actually the temp of the cooktop, not what's in the pot. I haven't had to melt for candy yet, so I can't say for sure it is not low enough.

Overall I really enjoy using this. It is easy to operate, cooks the food evenly, and easy to clean. It's a very good value for the money. I would recommend this to beginners as well as seasoned users.
