Ryan A: Centipede takes a long time to grow from seed. By a long time I mean like 3 months. I planted it mid july and by mid to late august I had some small shoots. those shoots didn't fully mature until about mid October. The hardest part about the extremely long germination time is controlling weeds. Luckily because I planted so late, there was not much more crabgrass germinating. However, if you planted this early spring, you would be competing greatly with crabgrass trying to establish before your centipede had a chance. I have had success using tenacity sparingly as a weed control once it matured enough to handle it. I only had a small area to seed so 1 pound was plenty for me. But if you were wanting a full lawn full of centipede, sod is probably the way to go. If you insist on seeding I have had much greater success with bermuda and the seed is much cheaper.

Chris: 2nd time getting this seed because it just works. Germination after 6 days. Even the area of the yard I only watered once a day at mid day because I was lazy was showing germination at day 6. Have some left over that I will plan to use in spring as well

ChristopherChristopher: This might sound like a lot of work, but it won't be if you prepare ahead of time and commit to the process. It took me around 30 minutes to spread it, and I had sprouts in 10 days. It's been about a month and the grass is looking great. Set your expectations!

I leveled a corner of my backyard around 30' x 30' (900 sq. ft) with new fill dirt and wanted centipede grass to grow there. About 1/4 of this area is in full shade, another 1/4 is part-shade, and the remaining 1/2 is full sun. I wasn't sure if centipede would grow in the shadier areas, but figured this bag would be my test.

Since I was starting with new soil as my base layer, I got it wet with a sprinkler -- which also allowed me to find the right area to set it up in and keep it there for watering over the next few months. I didn't soak the soil, just got it moist enough that the seeds would be on damp ground. I poured this bag, which might contain two handfuls total of seed, into a wheelbarrow and mixed in some top soil and some sand. Not as much as they recommended -- but enough to make grabbing a handful from the wheelbarrow feel like 85% dirt + sand.

Since the top soil was dark and the sand was...

Madeline: I can't say enough just how disappointed we are with this grass seed. We bought the centipede seed due to comments regarding the product. We hired a professional lawn service to grade and till up our lawn. We waited like the bag said until May to plant new seed. Even though the lawn service was not positive about this seed, we wanted them to plant the Centipede (they recommended another product). After the lawn service prepared the ground, they sowed the seed, as instructed on bag, then they put down straw. We installed several sprinklers so we could water evenly daily as needed. It has been 4 weeks now and almost none of the seeds have sprouted. The lawn service has returned several times and they are just as disappointed as we are. We are now in the process of getting Kentucky Fescue for the lawn service to plant over the Centipede. Guess we should have taken the advise of the lawn service and planted their recommended seed from the beginning. If we had, we probably would have some grass by now. Will not purchase this product again.

Jack: Further update: The seller has contacted me and gave me some advise on grass growing. I really appreciated that and will use the suggestions and make every effort to get the results I know are possible. I already have a medium size yard with beautiful centipede grass covering most of it. That is except for the areas I am re-seeding due to the damage caused by the runoff from a neighbor's driveway.

Update: After ordering a second 1 pound package, sowing some and waiting 3 weeks more, I still have no grass. I returned the unused portion of the second bag. The seeds were planted in fresh topsoil, covered and watered almost every day but very little grass sprouted. The total area that sprouted is about the size of 2 dinner plates. I used a 1 pound package and about 1/4 of the second package.

I covered some bare areas in a yard that already has Centipede grass and after 3 weeks there has been virtually no grass sprouting.

The bare areas were caused by runoff from a neighbors driveway so I covered the areas...
