Comments

Jim: This is a really excellent Voltage Detector (has already saved my a .... s). I like the variable sensitivity scroll/on-off switch (part of the scroll).

Bert: I like the robust feel of this tester and the auto shut off feature when not in use. I use it on an ongoing basis to check for live wires.

AttractiveSnail: I've had this almost a year an a half now (bought Sept. 2017)
This is my daily driver - before even whipping out the Fluke, I usually pop this out of my pocket to figure out if there's any voltage at all
For electricians looking to buy a no contact tester - this would be my obvious recommendation after using it at harsh conditions, storing with other (heavier) tools which didn't break it or even leave a mark.

-Still beeps as loud as the day I bought it, and I didn't even have to replace the batteries as opposed to some of my colleagues devices.
*Silent-mode function works as it should, though I personally use it rarely
-Sense range is just right for my liking
-Tested on EU (230V @50Hz) outlets of all shapes and sizes, aviation generators (115V and 208V @400Hz) and even out of spec(!) - ~2.3kV 50hz straight out of a CCR and on the endpoints... VERY glad to say it didn't break, stress or did anything wrong, which made me very comfortable working with it on standard household voltages.
-No false-positives. Ever. (And let's hope there never will be)

Clive: Works perfectly, I like how it auto powers off and beeps to let you know that its doing so.

Maintenance Man: These are very handy that you can easily adjust sensitivity to reduce false beeps! Had one for years till I loaned it to someone and they lost it! Got a "used, but perfect condition" one from Amazon, it came with the clip broken so the batteries wouldn't stay in, had to return it. More like "perfect condition, but broken and unusable!" The tester though is a very good one, just disappointed at Amazon!

Amazon Customer: Took forever to arrive to Canada. Tester has a great, bright pulsing light and loud beep but tends to loose the signal when held against a cord for more than a few seconds. As a pro electrician I depend on my tools to keep me safe, and I don't really trust this tic tester. I own others that I would rather use, bought this one because the bright light can be seen even in bright sun.

not an electrician :): I am by no means an electrician and frankly hate working with electricity. However in my office job, I saw a guy doing some work and he had an older version of this tool and I talked to him about it. I thought it was pretty cool (even if I never used it seriously) to be able to track down live wires so I bought one (actually bought 3 - other two as gifts).

So figuring I might never use it, this past weekend I noticed my lamppost was not working outside. Also some low voltage lights on the same circuit were out. Because the installation of that line was done in the garage and after the house was built, the lines were in plastic conduit and not in the wall but on the surface. There were two conduits, one going into a ground fault receptacle and one coming out. The problem was, I didn't know what breaker to throw to shut off the power to replace the receptacle and then it occurred to me to try the tool.

It worked perfectly as I touched it to the outside of the conduit coming in, it flashed and made noise and when I touched it to the one going out, it did nothing. What amazed me was the two conduits were an inch apart so it was sensitive enough to not pickup "overflow"...

N. J. Simicich: I have used a Greenlee detector of this sort that was not adjustable and some other brands, a $3 cheapie and a screwdriver that alerted when you were working on a hot outlet without disconnecting it, after all, I am a gadget geek :-). They worked simply. You touched (or neared, the probes were insulated) the probe to the wires that you were interested in - if the device alerted, the circuit might not be safe. Every time you used it, the instructions warned you to check it on a known hot circuit to insure that it would alert so that you could be sure that if it did not alert the circuits were not hot. While the instructions told you to do it every time you turned it on, most people would probably do it at the beginning of each job phase if they were paranoid (you know, the sort who lives around wires that might be live) and once every couple days if they were not.

But they did not have a high degree of discrimination. Stick the probe into a plug that was attached to a hot socket, and it would alert - on both sides, hot and neutral. It was set to error on the overly sensitive (more alerting) side - so any energy in a wire in the household voltage range kicked it off. One of...
