Goal Zero Yeti 1500X: Portable Power Station for All Your Outdoor Needs

Shelley: I bought the Yeti 1500x in May 2021 for emergency backup power. Thankfully I haven't had to use it until now. However it stays plugged in and ready to go at all times. The description said it would run a full size refrigerator for 21 hours. So I plugged my refrigerator in and the battery dropped from 98% to 69% in 45 minutes. The screen said 2.7 hours remaining - not likely. How did they come up with 21 hours? Thankfully the power came back on and I didn't have to rely on this generator.

Ali: Works great. Connection to the phone app was a little less intuitive than I expected, but I was able to quickly hook up and use it without problems. Very nicely put together. I wish it packed a bigger punch than 1500 WH. I know Goal Zero sell bigger units than the 1500, but the weight and size are also much bigger and wont fit in the space I have. But this works fine!

Neal BNeal B: Living in the Northeast, we purchased the Goal Zero 1500X for those times when the power goes out during summer thunderstorms and winter blizzards. We’ve never owned a generator (never liked the idea of a gasoline-powered generator’s danger and odor), so we’re very excited to have a generator that will continue to work as long as the sun is out! There haven’t been any blizzards since we have gotten the 1500X, but we have found other uses for it - like lighting our Christmas tree as seen in the photo. Since this model comes with the Goal Zero Yeti App, we can control the lights remotely from the comfort of our couch. The Yeti 1500X arrived about 75% charged and the plug and play made it very easy to charge up the rest of the way via a wall outlet. We don’t have solar panels to recharge the unit yet, but that is the next purchase. So far, we’re impressed by the ease of use, compactness, and power of the unit. The intuitive design helps too! We’re excited to use it for the basics (fridge, freezer, coffee maker, etc.) when the power goes out. 10/10 would recommend and can’t wait to buy the accessories to keep us powered through any outage.

Jennnifer Maris: My son recommended this Goal Zero for home back up. I was originally looking at installing a natural gas powered generator, but for the price I didn’t quite need that type of installation — especially a permanent one.

My home in NJ loses power quite often between hurricanes and snow storms, and the idea of having a portable power source seemed like a great investment. If I need to get in the car or walk down the block to help a neighbor, I have the ability to do so.

I used a gasoline generator for years, and besides easily filling it up and dragging it around, it was heavy and I couldn’t bring it inside. It’s loud and has exhaust fumes, and the only way to use it was by having it outside with an extension cord running inside with the door open. In the winter, that just lets all the cold air inside! It’s ridiculous.

I started with the 1500X to try out Goal Zero, and I’m impressed so far. I thought it would be too small, you’d think it can’t power much, but I’ve tested it out and has been running my fridge for days. The larger ones are probably ample power, but I can’t explain how much more secure and confident I feel knowing if the power...

Michael McCool: I previously had a 1400 Lithium but moved internationally and could not ship it, and bought this after relocating. It’s a very nice, high-quality battery, although it is expensive compared to the competition, now. Compared to the 1400, the IoT access is nice but I wish it had a way to set up on my LAN, and with a documented network API; it only has cloud and access-point modes, and while the app is nice I want to do my own integration. One thing it lacks though is timers (eg to turn on/off the inverter on a schedule) and an ability to select charge inputs. I *want* to have it charge from the wall only when necessary but from solar whenever possible. Alas, there is only a single (electrically; multiple physical ports) input.

Before we get into my review of the eye-opening Goal Zero Yeti 1500x, there are 3 main reasons I had bought portable battery stations and solar panels for:
- Power outages, Emergency preparation, Recreation

Wildfires and hurricanes have increasingly become common in the past few years' news cycles, and in California, there had been multiple times where electric companies simply shut down services during high risk conditions to minimize the risk of starting a fire. In fact, just 1.5 months ago, our family had to evacuate when a blaze ravaged nearby!

Between natural disasters, power outages, working from home amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and seeking to bring electronic conveniences (like CPAP medical machines) when out camping, sales for gas generators, batteries, and solar panels had seen an uptick in demand.

IN A NUTSHELL
