Louis A: Blade is good, much thicker than cheap ones on amazon. Doesnt bend and wobble easy. The bottom of the handle is too thin, near your ring finger and pinky finger. Handle also has plastic on part of it that isnt grippy.

Roman Kuechler: Also vorweg; ich habe mir noch nie eine Machete gekauft. Demzufolge habe ich keine Vergleichsmöglichkeit.

Ausgepackt macht das Teil einen soliden Eindruck. Im Einsatz bin ich jedoch nur mässig begeistert. Was ich vor allem beanstande ist der Griff und Balance dieses Messers:
Der Griff scheint mit echt zu klein geraten. Selbst für mich mit eher kleinen(!) Infomatiker-Händen. Das Messer liegt deshalb nicht speziell gut in der Hand, man muss den Griff übermassen fest umklammern, damit einem das Messer nicht aus der Hand rutscht. Für leute mit grossen Händen würde ich das Teil überhaupt nicht empfehlen! Falls einem das Messer doch mal aus der Hand rutsch, wird empfohlen, die Kordel um's Handgelenk zu legen. Mir ist das Messer einmal tatsächlich nach hinten aus der Hand gertusch und 5 Meter weit geflogen.
Schon nach kurzer Zeit verursachte das hintere Griffende eine ordentliche Blase links, unten an der rechten Hand (Handballen). Da half nicht einmal ein Lederhandschuh. Den ersten Grund für diese Blase sehe ich im zu dünnen, schmalen Griff, da so das Griff in der Hand zu viel Luft hat. Der zweite Grund liegt darin, dass das Messer sehr Kopflastig ausbalanciert...

RichardRichard: Haven’t used it yet but it’s pretty heavy, I played around (swung it) a lil bit and I can see this slipping out of my hand for actual machete uses. The blade is dull but seems really strong and is also very thick (doesn’t bend). For practical use there’s always going to be better but I think it’ll do great.

For self defense it’ll be more on the scare tactic (visual) side due to the heft so get something else.

Björn Müller: Ich habe eine Machete gesucht, die sich nicht wie ein Spielzeug anfühlt! Die Gerber liegt sehr gut in der Hand und das Gewicht ist für mich persönlich echt Klasse. Dadurch bekomme ich genug Schwung um Feuerholz im Schwarzwald zu schlagen. Vatertag geht sie wieder mit in den Schwarzwald! Beste Machete die ich in der Hand hatte. Preis ist natürlich auch Top.

Malcolm Curtis: Well made heavy duty blade in a quality scabbard. It has a thicker and longer blade than my other machete. The thicker blade hasn’t chipped or developed a wave along the cutting edge like my other machete. Works well on branches up to 1”

Josh Anderson: This is an even better revision than their old model of machete. The blade of this unit is thicker and more sturdy. With it's added weight from the thickness of the blade it is really easy to cut through branches and brush with greater ease. A very well made machete indeed.

rmc890: For the price, you'd better be getting a better blade than those cheap $8 at Walmart, but you really do. I bought a sog machete in the past and it snapped into to piece while chopping a stick. But this one is holding up well and stays sharp enough to trim my bushes with it. I also like that the rubberized handle and the lanyard keep me from flinging my machete in the neighbors yard. The sheathe is one of the better ones I have tried out too, and seems to have a plastic insert to keep its shape rigid.

Brad: This is a pretty good tool. Not excellent, but pretty good. Okay, so I reworked the edge (I always rework factory edges) and attempt to hack various small trees and vines growing on my property in east Texas without great luck. If you are rolling your eyes and nodding you get it. Anyway, it's one of many choppers that I have used on my chunk of land and it could be better. If you're a collector and just need a decent machete in your collection it's great. If you're hacking rubbery green, growing, and thorny vine that is trying to take over your yard a foot at a time, get something with a thicker spine and deeper/heavier blade; various Kukris and Parangs (Condor makes great Parangs) are far more effective. There ya go...collectors will love it, and they should; land owners who need to control Mother Nature (or believe that we actually can) can do better.

Daniel ॐDaniel ॐ: Ich konnte die Gerber Bush Machete heute endlich mal in Ruhe bei einer mehrstündigen Waldschrataktion testen.

Funktion:

Die Machete kam in einem für Outdooraktion ausreichend geschärften Zustand an. Rasieren war nicht möglich. Zumindest nicht am Körper, aber dazu gleich mehr.

Zunächst musste ich mich durch ein hochgewachsenes Feld hinter unserer Wohnung schlagen. Die Machete ist eindeutig weniger für Wiesen geeignet und durch das Gewicht ermüdet der Arm auf Dauer etwas, wenn man sich durch Wiesengestrüpp schlagen will.

Im Wald angelangt ging es dann aber gleich los. Alles ab einer dicke von ca. 0,5 cm durchschlägt die Machete mit einem Hieb. Egal ob umgefallene dünnere Bäume, Brombeersträucher oder Astwucherungen.
Man kommt damit bestimmt auch im Dschungel überall durch. Dazu werde ich aber extra berichten.

Anschließend ging es an den Lagerbau und ans Feuerholz machen. Mit wenigen Hieben sind tote Bäume mit Unterarmdurchmesser gefällt. Das Hauptgewicht liegt im vorderen Bereich der Klinge. Hier zugeschlagen entfaltet die Machete die größte Durchlagskraft. Entasten ist dank der im Vergleich zu den meisten Äxten dünneren...
