GE 30-Pint Portable Dehumidifier with Built-In Pump

javakp9999: Like so many others who purchased this product it runs beautifully for about 1 year and then 14 months later it completely died. The compressor is obviously an issue with these newer models. Bought mine in June 2022, died August 23. And same experience as others, GE tech support was completely useless. Looking now for a new replacement, not GE brand.

Katherine: It's really helping with the humidity in my 110 year old basement. My basement has bedrock in it. The people who built it built channels into the floor to allow water to flow through rather than accumulating. And until I dealt with it last spring, there was a grading issue on the uphill side of my house. This led to Problems. Such as mold growing on anything with a porous surface in a few rooms of my house.

So I dealt the the grading problem and got this dehumidifier. Now my basement is pretty dry most of the time, and I didn't have to throw out half of my belongings. A friend of mine payed over a thousand for her dehumidifier, so I feel like I did pretty well here.

I did set it up to pump water outside, and the line goes JUST far enough for me to rout it a few feet downhill of my foundation. I could probably find more line and a way to attach it at the hardware store if I felt like doing the research.

NYTech: This was easy to use and I liked the pump option very much. I didn't like that there were no displays or codes that would allow me to troubleshoot. But what really didn't like was that 13 months after purchase, the thing just quit. Took it to an authorized repair shop who told me that there was a refrigerant leak that caused it to seize up and it was not repairable. They suggested I contact GE to see if they would honor a warranty (1 year). I called numerous times and talked with numerous people who would transfer me to the proper department. One time they hung up and the other times, I was put on in my mind terminal hold. No one ever, ever answered the transfer. So I'm officially off GE small appliance products, particularly dehumidifiers.

Retirementisgood: I would give 5 stars for everything except its portability is limited due to the need to re-run the drain tube if you opt to use it. In my case, it drains into the sump and the drain tube had to be cut to a couple of feet. If I would use it elsewhere where it would have to drain out a window, I don't know that the remaining drain tube would be long enough.... if I can remember where I put it for safekeeping, It does have wheels that are good on hard floors but might be a challenge on carpeting. It was easy to set up and reasonably quiet.

Gadget-Guy: ok... just to get things straight... this one wasn't my idea.
In pursuit of mold elimination, my significant other decided that the window AC units weren't getting the job done.
So, she decided that de-humidifying was the way to go.

Well, the first complication was delivery.
This critter is too big to rebox.
So, they didn't.
The delivery service showed it no mercy.
To be fair, this thing may have spent the last 12 months flat on a concrete floor some where in Mexifornia.
That tends to damp soak the bottoms of boxes.
Which could explain why this box had no bottom and most of the Styrofoam was falling out.
Still, as a testament to the units design, it appears to have survived.

Now, dehumidifying has a place and purpose... just not a terribly energy efficient one.
They have a compressor with a chiller that functions below the dew point in a room.
That pulls moisture out of the air, which collects in a bucket, which you have to empty on a regular basis.
This unit has a pump, which allows you to pump it some short distance (~ 16 feet or so).
The cooler cools, the pump pumps - what more could you ask for.
