The bag is pretty small but since they are dehydrated pieces of apple you get quite a few. I’m not sure what I was expecting but they were really sour. They really don’t taste like an apple until you start chewing them. While there isn’t any sugars, you almost can’t tell due to the bitterness.

The Toolman: These have a pleasant sweet and tart flavor. They don't have any bad after-taste. They are very expensive for what you get but they are light, so great for backpacking. The packaging is rather bulky but it helps protect them from getting broken, which is good. My sample arrived in excellent condition and the expiration date was 2024 (3 years out) so these are good for long term storage.

Dave English: High quality. Not some nasty third-grade apples sorta dried out with added sugar and chemicals. Clear that these are good apples carefully cut, and completely freeze-dried. Very tasty snack right out the resealable bag, or of course good for adding to oatmeal or whatever.
I'm not an apple expert, I have no certification or academic training. But, I did grow up surrounded by apple orchards in Kent, England, and now live surrounded by apple orchards in central Massachusetts. I've eaten a lot of apples! And when fresh isn't going to work, these are great to pack to go. Hope this quick review helps you.

Angie Boyter: These freeze-dried slices are crisp, crunchy, and delicious. You can munch them as is or, as I did, add them to yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast.
The freeze-drying compresses the equivalent of about 2 medium Fuji apples into 1.5 ounces, making them much lighter to carry if a bit more expensive than the fresh variety. The pouch is bigger than I would have expected, about 6 inches by 8 inches and 2 ½ inches high, which is too big for most pockets, so this is more suitable for backpacking than for a simple day hike.

Stephanie SullivanStephanie Sullivan: These are really tasty dried Fuji apple slices! I mean really flavorful and sweet. I like them a lot. They almost melt in my mouth. A wonderful experience that ended in almost a dusty mouth feel. Not really unpleasant at all but a surprise on the first couple of bites. A unexpected texture change!
I was surprised at how many pieced of apply were in the bag at 1.5oz of product. Still it feels that at $4.33/oz (as of this review) this treat is a bit overpriced by my measure. Still it could be tempting on some occasions.
I like that it’s just apples. That’s it. No preservatives, etc. This isn’t something I would tend to take backpacking. I can picture sticking these into backpack, later pulling it out and opening to mostly apple dust. And for the proportion of what’s in the bag it appears the bag is on the large size to me.
I really enjoyed these apple slices. They are really tasty and exceeded my expectations in this respect. If you are planning on these for camping I’d only give these 4 stars. For munching in other situations (which is me) I’ll give this delicious light treat 5 stars.
