TheLovelyBones: Known fact that rectal temperature in baby is what is accurate and reliable and works irrespective of the ambient temperature.
This is very easy to use- the broad design just end of the silver top ensures you go just the right depth.
I used it on my baby who was awake and alert. She didn't bat en eyelid and was very comfy.
Always check with the rectal thermometer if the forehead shows fever!
