Roger M n AR: The two rods with scrapers and paracord lanyards came in a small box, pretty much as discribed. It is a Chinese product top to bottom.
I've bought Fostar rods before and the worked fine, so do these.
I find the terminology used by Fostar and others to market/discribe ferro rods and their use interesting. The box for these two days "Flint fire starter". The discription Amazon calls the Firesteel. Flint is a rock and a Firesteel commonly is a piece of carbon steel used to strike or be struck by as piece of rock, such as flint, to generate a spark. The tool in this kit is referred to as a striker when it's predominant use is to scape a ferro rod to generate sparks or wood to generate scrapings for use as tinder. The half moon portion of these scrapers are for the most part, useless.
The scrappers in this kit are of the type commonly provided. Some ferro rods come bare with no scrapers or other elements which make them more useful. Others come with additional elements such as whistles, tinder, compasses an so for.
$7 dollars is a fair price for these two rods and add ons. It is a positive for me that each rod came with some orange to help see them when...
