YorkshireLass: As far as I am concerned, this book should be part of the school curriculum, not only the UK, but throughout the world

iva: Not an easy read by any means but should be required reading for everyone as a warning of what humanity is capable of. For all politicians to make sure it will never happen again and for people to wake up and ask themselves what they would do in the circumstances. Would they stand up and fight it, even at the cost of their lives?

Paul fairchild: A truely horrifying book .yes we all know and have read about the camps and brutality of the German war machine, but this book gives a retched account of man’s inhumanity to life ,all evil is exposed,oh why was this allowed to happen ,this book tugs at the heartstrings.

Gill: A harrowing account of an atrocity that cannot be allowed to happen ever again. It was very difficult to read but also very difficult to put down. I don't think I would have survived what these poor souls experienced. God bless all those who suffered.

Kindle Customer: I have sat here, in my house, listening almost non-stop to Olga Lengyel's account of her time spent in the concentration camp of Auswich-Birkenau. I feel numb, totally revolted by all I have heard. I am not yet able to attain a standing position and even go to the kitchen for a glass of water. I am parched with thirst, and I am totally exhausted by this hideous narrative.
I have just recently become almost obsessed by the Holocaust... We studied it in school many years ago in the 1960s, but.only in the most cursory of fashions. Then during my early- teen years when my Army family was deployed to Germany for three years, my parents took me on a vacation. We drove to Poland, to Austria, and all around Germany, and our vacation was a macabre tour of Auswich, Birkenau, Ravensbruck and several other concentration camps. I was 14, it was 1966, and when I stood (feeling fearful that the doors would slam shut, and that the canisters of insecticide type gas would be tossed into the chamber where so many had died hideously and where I now stood.) I found myself shivering, shaking with fear and anguish as the spirits of some of those who had been murdered that way swirled around me,...

Ray F: Five Chimneys is the memoir of Olga Lengyel’s time as an inmate in the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp complex in 1944 and 1945. It is her eye-witness account of horrors inflicted on innocents from attitudes and policies persisting still in the world.

MS. LENGYEL AS AN EYEWITNESS

Ms. Lengyel was a surgeon’s assistant at a hospital in Clug, Transylvania (in Hungary) in 1944. The surgeon she assisted was her husband, Dr. Miklos Lengyel, who also ran a hospital. Hungary was occupied by the Germans but most people lived more-or-less normally under their rule, not believing the rumors of internment camps where dissidents and undesirables were executed en-mass.

But then Dr. Lengyel was arrested for allegedly boycotting the use of German pharmaceutical preparations in his clinic. Some fast-talking got him released, but only for a short while. Soon, he was taken by the SS (or “Schutzstaffel,” German for "Protective Echelon") again and did not return. Questioning the SS, Ms. Lengyel was told that her husband would be relocated to Germany and that she and her family could accompany him. She later found that this was a common ploy of the Germans to get...
