Todd: Does what the product claims, very sharp and cuts three times deeper

Vkesu: Put one in my FJ and will mount the other on the roof rack of the Maverick X3. Ideal for a recovery tool or camp ax. Very sharp and durable. It will keep an edge as long as you only hit wood with it. (Sounds obvious but if you've used one to clear a path...)

Hooahtown: This axe is the right size for a 6 foot person to chop wood vs splitting. It holds an edge and the head won’t come loose. The handle absorbs the shock well. I highly recommend.

Rick A NieforthRick A Nieforth: I have this axe attached the my side by side for camping and cutting down tree limbs that are in the trails. Very sharp and a good portable axe.

Photo Guy: The handle is short, works great for my younger son, who is 10yrs old. Its very sharp and light weight, yet heavy enough to chop a block of wood in to pieces. The travel case is good keeps the blade safely stowed away.

ama: I started out with a hatchet from Fiskars (the x7) it is an amazing little axe but wasnt good for big logs or trees. I wanted something for backpacking trips in heavy winter in northern california. This axe was the perfect addition.Someone laughed at the hollow handle telling me it would break. I love the hollow handle, great for storing fire tinder or a fire starter rod. This Axe is no joke, its razor sharp even after 3 years of moderate use. Only chipped a tiny piece when i hit an embedded rock in a tree. Cut down a 16 inch diameter tree with this solely, in about 20-30 minutes was taking out 3-4 inch chunks with each swing. I tried other axe's of the same length that would just bounce off the tree no matter how sharp they were, or they got stuck in the wood making you bend the handle back and forth to get them out. not this axe. Has the perfect angle head for chopping at a tree. Comes right out of the wood when buried in it. Havent tried it as a splitting axe much but that wasn't its intent. Ive kept it sharp with a stone, holds a nice edge for a long time.

Did a mention its super lightweight? i dont even notice it on my backpack other than when the handle hits my legs....

Dan Wong: This axes is very well balanced- almost all of the weight is in the head and the handle seems very light and hollow. However, it handles vibration quite well and feels sturdy.

The major downfall that i've seen so far is the edge material is quite soft and will dull quite quickly. I'm not sure if this is because of the termpering process or if the steel is subpar.

I'd recommend wearing thin leather gloves on your lower hand, as the plastic of the handle tends to chafe the skin when you choke up at the end of the handle.

I have managed to overstrike on rounds when splitting multiple small rounds at once, and it doesn't seem to have caused any visible damage to the handle.

The carrying case/sheath is nice and sturdy. It provides foor purchase on the tool and protect other stuff in the trunk of my car from the edge of the axe.

I've never had to use the Fiskars lifetime warranty, but i've heard great things about it- it's also the reason why i've always gravitated to buying Fiskars gardening and and hand-tools.

mingle: Probably the best 'large'-sized chopping axe available at any price.

Simply eats through most types of timber with minimal effort.

Comfortable to use and the fibre-comp handle eliminates most of the dangers associated with over-strikes with this size of axe.

Max Boivin: This axe is a good chopper. Every swing it takes deep bites and it doesn't tend to get stuck. The axe is light, which makes it good for transportation but reduces its efficacy a bit. You can compensate by putting in a little more speed; this is made easy by the weight being almost all in the head.

I wish the handle was a few inches longer, but I knew it would be the length it is when I bought, I just didn't realise how it would impact me. If you're used to working with a full-size axe, don't believe the people who say a shorter one is better, especially if you chop larger trees (I fell a 20-inch diameter birch with this axe).

The main problem I found, and the reason I taking away a star, is the handle width/thickness. It does feel small in the hands. If you have smaller hands, that might be good for you, but if you have big man hands, you'll find it tiring to hold. I should have expected this problem since I had a similar one with a Fiskars bush knife. On the knife, I wrapped rope around the handle to thicken it and I forgot about it, but this is not really an option for an axe where your hands need to be able to slide on it.

Gary W.: Delivery was quick. The axe was received in perfect condition. The blade cover supplies all the protection you need to the axe blade for delivery. The blade is very sharp. No need to sharpen further at this pint. Although I was looking forward to it. DO NOT order a fragile item with this. It would not survive being in the same box as the axe when shipped.

Remember that Fiskars sells Chopping and Splitting axes. Get the version most suited to your needs and you will be a Happy Camper. The weight and balance of the Chopping axe is perfect.

I'm at odds with the well designed plastic sheath. It does come with a carrying handle, but you need to be 5'9" or taller to carry it that way. Because it's plastic I question its integrity in below zero weather. To be sure, I will be dusting off my "Speedy Stitcher" and making a leather sheath.

Constructive and possible life saving criticism:
I am confused as to why a reputable company such as Fiskars would sell axes with the axe handle end left open as it is??? Why would they not provide a cap for the end of the handle? Maybe they don't have POISONOUS or VENOMOUS CREEPY CRAWLY"S in Finland? Ones that want to live in the...
