The Fiskars 29 Inch Machete Axe is the perfect tool for gardening. Featuring an 18 inch blade, it is ideal for clearing thick brush with ease. The built-in blade head helps to ensure precise and controlled chopping and splitting. Plus, it comes with a durable nylon sheath to keep the blade safe from damage. This machete axe is the best choice for size, customer support, ergonomics, and build quality.DB: It both looks cool and is functional. I have a lot of Burdock that grows around my house it cuts through it well.

Frank: Feels good in the hand. Cuts deep even though it doesn't come super sharp or of the packaging. I'm gonna put it on the whetstone and fix that. I might come back and update this after that. Either way, this is a good buy. Also, I've owned a few dozen different machetes and this is up there at #1 probably.

aTypicalEngineer808aTypicalEngineer808: Summary: I have been using these longer handle Zenport sickles for tree clearing work. The pointy end one (K314) is also a narrower blade, compared to the K311, which is a sharpened axe (essentially). I had been looking for another addition, and decided on the "zombie killer" 29" Fiskars, so I will be comparing the three.
Observations: The 29" Fiskars is a beast. Out of the box, it is NOT sharp enough to cut cane grass (which has a 1/2" stalk, and grows about 7-8' tall. Comparatively, the K314 zips right through it, and the heavier K311 will still get through it, but not like a hot knife through butter. The Fiskars is also much longer, and heavier than the other two (maybe double the weight). I cut a swath through cane grass with the K311 and K314, one in each hand, but when I tried that with the Fiskars, it's just too heavy for single handed use.
Modification: I decided to sharpen the long cutting edge of the Fiskars to try and make it more of a slicer than a chopper. I used a hand file to widen the primary grind, which was maybe 3/64" initially, out to 5/64", which I estimate changed the inclusive angle from 45 degrees to 30 degrees (approximately). I also...

AW: Out of the box it needs to be sharpened. But I was able to get a nice razor like edge pretty quickly by hand sharpening and a carbide sharpening system for axes. I have only been able to use it for a couple of hours so far. But for my needs it has been working well and has held its edge after sharpening.
I put it through its paces on some ornamental grasses, debarking some tree branches and cutting some palms that resemble the way bamboo grows. It did struggle with the palms getting through the hard outer layer but cut right through the inner core of the palm tree. I have to thin out the palms a couple times a year and typically just use the chain saw and make short work of it. But I couldn't get the saw running last week and had to bring it back to Stihl for service and this did work but I would definitely prefer a chain saw. But it did a great job with cutting off some suckers and small limbs growing on a tree limb that was cut over the weekend and I use the twigs, suckers and small branches as kindling for the fire bowl/pit out back.
As for what I do not like is that I had to sharpen it right out of the box . I also do not like the fact that the blade doesn't run through...

Chip: This is fantastic, but it's difficult to carry, difficult to wield, and I generally leave it behind in favor of my kukri. It's also not balanced at all.
That said it's made of high quality materials. It held it's edge after I hit a rock. I've quickly and easily taken down a tree 12 inches in diameter; chopped and split.
If you're going to use it around your yard, this is great. If you're planning on carrying this around a few acres or more, look elsewhere.
