First Alert Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector (BRK SC7010BV-6)

olderbutwiser: This model is photoelectric for smoke detection and electrochemical for carbon monoxide detection. I am using three to replace older BRK 7010 units that have been working well for 13 years but should have been retired a few years ago. The new ones are labeled BRK SC7010BV and add voice, CO monitoring, and battery backup. They use the same wiring connector but have a different mounting ring. The devices I received had been manufactured only a couple of weeks before.

I set up each of the three on the bench before mounting: activate the batteries then press the button to test, enter setup, and save the desired location. If you want to change the saved location, slide one of the batteries away from its contact temporarily to start the process over. It has been a few weeks and there have not been any false alarms.

I bought three individual units, avoiding the multi-pack in case I had to return only one, but it is better to buy individually for the price as well. The penalty for buying a 3 pack is only 2 cents, but 6 cost $19.75 more in the pack and 12 cost $105.21 more in the pack. Nanette S.: Using existing hard wiring from the first alert detectors that I was replacing, these new detectors installed easily and successfully. I think that I had all six rooms changed out within an hour. (Not having to rewrite anything.)

The plate on these are designed to work with existing screw fasteners. I only loosened the existing screws and the new plate easily fit. The existing First alert wire connector matched and snapped right in place by hand.

Each room has an audio label that you set up by room. It calls out that room as the alarm goes off. And the system test for one room has all the alarms going off together in the other rooms. I wish it allowed custom names or more variety of names, but that may not matter in an emergency.

These alarms also tell you the amount of Carbon Monoxide that was detected. I was impressed with that feature.

I just installed these and if I haven’t changed this comment, then they must still be working well.

неизвестный: Our plug in CO detector hit end of life, and I needed a replacement for that. We use the BRK First Alert detectors and they have worked fine. I test these annually with a commercial smoke detector spray - and you should to.

CO is actually LIGHTER than air, so CO detectors should be placed up high to properly work. I like that this announces what the problem is. The volume of the speaking as well as the horn is deafening and will wake just about anyone. It is also programmable to specify what room it is in. The list to select from is a bit limited, but it covers the basics - bathroom, kitchen, garage, master bedroom, guest bedroom and such. Read the manual about how to program. I messed up the first time and had to do it again.

The unit is functionally complete, including AA batteries of uncertain origin. I always use Energizer Lithium batteries, but it isn't necessary. But I did replace the ones that came installed with Energizers.

It is capable of working in series with other smoke detectors. I have that disconnected so it doesn't trigger all of the fire alarms. You can also lock the detector with the included (flimsy) locking pins that will discourage, but...
