Filtrete 20x25x1 Air Filter - Ideal for AC Furnace Systems

D. Simmons: I admit being pleasantly surprised by the performance of these filters. I have a background with air filtration for homes and for industrial applications, having worked in the trades for 40+ years. I bought a 2-pak and waited until 5 new windows were going to be installed in my house. I knew that after they were done the house was going to smell like plaster and glue and caulking for a couple of days. I put one of these filters in my forced air gas furnace and set it to run the fan only. In about 30 minuets the smells were gone and the house smelled great. A regular fiber filter would have taken days to do the same thing, if it had any effect at all.

Jason: They are a bit oversized. So very tight fit in the space provided on my A/C, but once they're in they do great job. Can tell a difference in the air quality and freshness all around. Price on these is always pretty high IMO, but that seems to be a given. If you are looking for a high quality filter, and don't mind using a little elbow grease to install them without just forcing them in and ruining them before you get a chance to use it, I'd definitely recommend these.

JustAnotherReview: These filters cause my central air to freeze up. I purchased and used over the winter to stop the smell of cat litter scent from being circulated through out the whole house. It worked excellent. No problems. In the summer within 3 weeks my ac shut down-frozen. This had never happened before in 12 years we owned the house and used 'cheaper' filters the whole time. I changed this brand filter to a brand new one from the same pack after thawing out the system (complete shut off) and it began to frost up again immediately. As a test, I ran my ac with no filter at all, no problems. The next day I went back to the hardware store and bought the cheap filters you can practically see through ($3/filter) and it has been 2 days into a heat wave with no problems to my ac. 'Business as usual'. No frost what so ever. I found it worked great eliminating the smell of cat litter coming from basement but I cant use these during central air months. Just a warning.

Pyramid: Have been using Filtrete for a good number of years now and these MPR filters are the highest rated cleaning capacity.

Now these filters have a charcoal layer that claims to remove odours along with a filtering of the usual contaminants but I can,t, and didn't expect to notice a difference.
This filter does remove the dust and debris though! Very happy with Filtrete brand for getting that. I typically get about 2 months out of this type of filter so expect no difference with these and of course that run time will change as each household is different as to the amount of contaminants.

Amazon Customer: Excellent pour couper les odeurs de fumée (plusieurs foyers dans mon voisinage brûle du bois en mode "combustion lente", ce qui ne brûle pas tous les gaz, ces principaux gaz qui s'ils sont brûlés à une température élevée dans un poêle ou foyer) contribuent directement au bon rendement d'un feu de foyer dans une maison. Malheureusement depuis des décennies les maisons sont équipées de ces poêles à combustion lente, ce qui signifie que l'on diminue drastiquement l'arrivée d'air, le feu étant moins intense et moins chaud il ne brûle pas ces gaz polluants et ces gaz non-brûlés envahissent l'air des quartiers rendant les marches d'après souper impossible, car on étouffe sous les gaz non-brûlés abondants et les fines particules; ça pue! Alors ce filtre avec charbon activé réduit considérablement les odeurs de feu polluant et puant dans ma maison; je peux maintenant passer un hiver sans avoir à me soucier et vérifier partout dans ma maison s'il y a un feu à quelque part.
En contrepartie, ces filtres sont très dispendieux.

VosWilliger: This is a good, solid filter. I have used these before. I do not give them 5 stars because this is advertised as an allergen filter but 3M Filtrete makes better filters for allergies and asthma that remove more particulates from the air. Unfortunately, this is the only filter that 3M makes that includes active carbon that helps to remove wildfire smoke from the air.

When new, it does a MUCH better job cleaning smokey air in our house than a Filtrete MPR 1900 or 2200. However, it doesn't do as good a job with other particulates like pet dander. Don't ask me why - I am simply going by what our eyes and lungs tell us. My wife's eyes and my lungs do much better/don't burn at all with the carbon filters in the furnaces when the wildfire smoke blows in. We just set the fans/blowers in our two furnaces to 'Summer' mode and they run 24/7 when the smoke is bad; it continuously filters the air and keeps the inside of our house clean and odour-free.

However, when the smoke clears out, I have to switch back to the Filtrete 2200 filters to clean the air of pet dander and pollen, something the Filtrete Charcoal 1200 cannot do a great job of.

I wish 3M would make a charcoal...

Steves_Reviews: I have purchased the following and found them totally useless:
- ToxBox (now very hard to find and do NOT work as stated
- HEPA brand made by who knows, expensive and just a name, not a function of what they do
- Other Filtrete pleated types, not so good
These are so far the best I've used here is why:
- Flow rate does not diminish like other brands and ToxBox really kills flow rates and that is about it.
- Charcoal coating (perhaps) keeps odour at bay if that is an issue
- Air smells really clean
- Reduced dust in the house compared to the other brands i've noticed
Overall, I am more than pleased with these, be sure to mark the date on them when you install, keep it to 3-months (winter time)
We use these in conjunction with an air ionizer during the winter months to keep the house smelling fresh (be sure you leave the house when operating an ionizer, it's not good to be exposed directly, it needs to dissipate)
Price was very competitive to what I'd found locally and I could not come close to this brand/style anywhere

saf4amazon: These 6 filters were all wrapped up in one package, not individually, but all 6 together in one plastic wrapped bundle. Some serious misinformation in the question and answer section above when I was told by multiple people these come individually wrapped. They all must have misunderstood the question or something.

At any rate, these filters are pretty decent and if you can get a good price on them they should be purchased. The other filters they compete with Nordic Pure are pretty good ones as well if you get the 'Pure Carbon' ones not the cheaper 'Plus Carbon' ones. So basically I would buy whichever ones were cheaper at the time....but never the 'Plus Carbon' ones.

I use these as a prefilter to a 5 inch pleated Merv 13 so the main thing you want in a filter like this is carbon. Get as much carbon as possible because that is the substance that removes or absorbs the odors and contaminants in the air. Not that these have anything near enough carbon to remove anything that would normally be lethal....in other words these are not poison proof, but they do remove odors fairly well....but so do the Nordic Pure 'Pure Carbon', so just do your math.
