Sagerods: Well, first off I got this as a cheap rod for a trip up to Michigan again. I’ve taken my UL rod and I lost a few good fish and decided on a medium rod and I’ll see what happens. But… the rod is very stiff giving its a 4 piece. The connections scare me a little because the rod is completely finished and the sections move easily when put together. Normally the sections aren’t finished where the male and female ends connect and hold well… so we’ll see. I’m not thrilled with it, but it’s a cheapo rod so I won’t be upset if it breaks like I think it will. If it does, I’ll go to my usual spot in Davison, The Grab Bag and pick up another rod. If y’all ever get a chance to go in there, do it. Very friendly people that know their stuff and have great selections.

Update: so I finally used it and I don’t like it (personally). It’s heavy and the rod is super stiff and no action at all. The rod is a fast action, medium but is more like an extra fast, heavy. Ilex Opaca: I ordered two 7' rods but received a 7' and a 6.5'. They both fit in my luggage (diagonally, under my clothes). The 6.5' rod breaks down a little smaller than the 7' so go with that if you're concerned about them fitting in your luggage.

As others have said they are well made. They arrived in perfect condition. They come in a reusable synthetic roll with pockets for each section which will prevent scratches and keep the rod sections organized but not protect the rod otherwise - so I handled them with care.

They assemble snugly and firmly. The action is a little faster (stiffer) than I'd like but they cast well and handle great. The action of the 6.5' is a little less stiff than the 7' rod which seems to have a little more backbone.

I only caught small snapper so I can't attest to their performance under serious load. The 6.5 held up fine when I got snagged on coral and had to muscle free.

They are light rods but I bet these would be fine hooking up on a 24" Snook or Jack - I'll let you know when I find out.

I paired the 6.5 with a 2500 Penn reel and the 7' with a 3000 Shimano - both worked great.

Kath: My husband really loves this pole. It's light and balanced, stiff yet flexible. It's perfect to travel with! Unfortunately it broke one day while he was fishing. I contacted the seller and they were happy to replace the piece but it would take 30 to 50 days to receive a new part. Mikeg: With a load of low priced rods on amazon it was hard to decide. This 4 piece fits easily in my small carryon bag. Comes with a thin but well made pouch. Used it in Carribean to fish from shore and pier in salt water. Lots or coral to snag lines.Caught a few nice size parrot and file fish and some put up long fights. The tip looked thin but held up well to tossing bait with up to 1 1/2 oz wt. Eyes and pole really well made for the price. Looking forward to traveling all around with this rod. I would say construction on a par with the bass pro 2 piece light rods I use, but the 4 piece way to go for suitcase.

J Bradley: Came across this rod when looking for a travel rod to handle inshore Florida. Have purchased travel fishing rods from Amazon before and it is very hard to find a quality rod. This rod is equal parts quality and band for your buck, same quality as my single piece fishing rods back home. This is a great quality fishing rod for a low cost travel option. 100000% recommend to others, I will be using this rod as a standard practice back home. The only mark I have against it is the bottom section Is a little small for casting . Also FOR THOSE TRYING TO PACK IN CARRY ON LUGGAGE, it is slightly larger than a carry on luggage piece, had to pack corner to corner in luggage in the middle of my bag. Was slightly worried about damage during travel. But, I did not experience any damage during travel, and I had to valet check my carry on during a small plane flight and experienced no damage so that speaks to the quality of this travel fishing rod. Fantastic bang for your buck with a high level quality. HIGHLY recommend to others for a low cost travel rod for all of your travel fishing adventures.
