Leroy Johnson: A really interesting book about mythological creatures and monsters

Summer Rain: “While one cannot call a myth a truth in the true sense of the word, the best way to explain it would be that mythology was often a perspective- or a version of the truth.” As it had before, Vol 2 of Mr. Stone’s mythology series gives a brief overview of what makes a myth- as well as the differences between folklore and mythology. It’s a nice opener to the compendium that follows, as I settled down to read more. I rather enjoyed Vol 1, giving it a three out of five. This time around, the categories are the same, but the range of creatures and beasts were much more elusive and unheard of. One of my favorites ended up being the first; Jorōgumo of Japan.
There isn’t much to say about this novel- it’s not all that different from the first I reviewed. There are the same categories, and it still hits about a 3/5 for me. However, there were an even larger number of creatures I had never heard of- and I still love how varied Mr. Stone makes it, including creatures from Norse, African, Aztec, Finnish, Persian, Slavic, and even more ancient origins. I love the amount of research that had to have gone into this- I wouldn’t even know where to start on half of these. I...

ritika p.: 🧜🏼♂️Title- Mythical Creatures and Magical Beasts volume 2
🧜🏼♂️Author - Zayden Stone
🧜🏼♂️Genre- Fiction
🧜🏼♂️This book contains six sections and each section contain beautiful chapters. Here I have mentioned a few of them, which I liked the most. The following are:
🧜🏼♂️The Jorōgumo is one of the most dangerous shapeshifters in Japanese mythology.
🧜🏼♂️Scorpion Man -They symbolize resolute defence and security for royalty and laypeople alike. Created to be frightening members of a monster army, they are fearsome guardians and protectors.
🧜🏼♂️ Anansi- Anansi is usually depicted as a black spider with a cheeky anthropomorphized face. Rather than his appearance, it is his character that is important to the many tales he features in.
🧜🏼♂️ Itsumade- Itsumade is a legendary monster with a jigsaw of body parts. It has a human face but with a bird-like beak lined with sharp and jagged teeth and a reptilian body akin to a dragon, with clawed talons and enormous wings with a span of almost five meters. It is a striking and terrifying figure...

Mythology: mytho ~ story & logos ~ spoken.
The tales, stories we have heard from our elders..passed on from generation to generation..for spending away time, teaching moral lessons or for a spiritual purpose.
Irrespective of the reason, it always has some magical element &/or some heavenly relation, one with the powerful God.
Volume 2 of this series released on 20th Nov. 2021 & is around 200 pages.
Zanden has culminated & then divided all the varied magical creatures, one can think of! It is actually mind boggling!
He divided ➗ them into 6 main categories;
Arthropods, avian, canines, serpents, ungulates & aquatic.
If you have read 📚 & imagined books like HP, Hobbit etc & enjoyed em, then this is for you!
The b/w illustrations add to the imagination.
The cover is beautiful & makes the...

AnushkaAnushka: Every fantasy & mythology genre lover comes across several magical creatures & these creatures shape the entire story–at times helping the protagonist, at times being their enemies. But how well do we know their origin stories?
Zayden Stone in his 2nd vol. of 'Mythical Creatures & Magical Beasts' continues his saga of telling the readers the stories of the mythical creatures who we come across in folklores, myths & legends.
The book is divided into 6 sections–Arthropoda, The Ancient Aviary, Cryptic Canines, The Eternal Hiss, The Unusual Ungulates, Aquatic Beasts.
Each section covers 5-7 animals from diverse folklores & mythology–Greek, Persian, Finnish, African, South-African, Japanese, Slavic, European, Melanesian to name a few.
Each tale begins with a brief popular tale followed by the description of the animal, how their legends came into existence & if their stories have experienced change over the time.
This book is rich in information & beautiful illustration sketched by Herdhian gives an insight to the creatures we'll be visualising.
I loved the diversity of the folklores covered in this vol. The...

🕸️Mythical Creatures and Magical Beasts written by Zayden Stone is a book on mythological creatures.
.
🕸️ Inspired by the childhood stories of mythologies, Zayden has curated this illustrated book about the mythological creatures.
.
🕸️Stone describes himself as a self-proclaimed folklorist.
.
🕸️The book has made me realise the importance of myths and folklores and the difference between them. Stone describes them as the ' sources for creating a sense of community through campfire stories.'
'Myths are sacred whereas folklores are fictional tales' as mentioned in the book.
.
🕸️It is divided into six sections- Arthropoda, An Ancient Aviary, Cryptic Canines, The Eternal Hiss, The Unusual Ungulates and Aquatic Beasts. These sections are filled with mythological creatures that we've never heard of.

tburbr: This was an interesting read. I knew the stories of some of the creatures included, but was happy to learn about those that I didn't. This is one book that I would happily share with all members of my family.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Crystal Crossings: I love books about myths and legends from ancient societies you can learn so much by what tales they told and passed down. Mythical creatures too hold a place in my heart. I firmly believe that there were dragons yes I know what you are saying but what if some dinosaurs lived and mutated gators are living descendents of dinosaurs. Many myths have a bases of truth to them that why it is so great to read a book like this. It makes you wonder and think. Great work this one is as good as the first book I am so glad I have both in my library.

Sarah Hutchins: I bought volumes 1 and 2 together as I am currently working on a project based on the myths and folklore of the world. I came across these when browsing amazon for books and bought them as they had illustrations. The books are set out great as the creatures are in sections according to type, which is helpful. The illustrations are lovely and following the code in the book, I was able to get the colouring book for volume one for free. Very impressed with both volumes.
