Sarah Hutchins: I have written a review on the other book in this series and did not realise I did book 2 first in my review. They are great books, very clear and the illustrations are great. If you are interested in the creatures of myth and folklore I recommend these books.

Summer Rain: This short read was something I’ve had on my list for ages, and while I count it as an average read, I am still glad I finally got to it. In this mythology book, Mr. Stone recounts several lesser known creatures and beasts, categorized by type- such as aquatic creatures or winged creatures or arachnids. While it was standard for mythology books, I found something a bit different in this particular rendition by Mr. Stone- there were a lot of creatures I had never heard of, and he managed to keep a great mixture of different cultures. I was expecting the usual Greek or Egyptian or Norse mythology, but this book threw in plenty of Hindu and French mythology as well, something that caught my eye. French mythology and folklore in particular is something that is rarely spoken of, and I was pleased to see it given some attention here. I found myself making notes of creatures I wanted to research further for my own writing.

My only complaints about this book ended up being in a handful of editing errors I spotted. There really isn’t anything inherently wrong with the information itself, as far as I know, and it was a nice educational read. I would recommend it to anyone who...

Srijoni Chakraborty: I am bagging lots of mythologies these days since every book I am reading surprisingly I am not being able to put it down. I endeared the cover of this book and expected a lot before starting because of my already enthralling experiences of mythology. It didn’t come entirely up to my expectation but it was good.

As titled several magical creatures were denoted in the book with their myths which we tend to excerpt. It has six different sections named- Arthropoda, Ancient Aviary, Cryptic Canines, The Eternal Hiss, The Unusual Ungulates, and Aquatic which periodically talk about the lobsters, scorpions, and spiders, birds, dogs and wolves, serpents, horses, cows, and boars and underwater creatures. Now to relate the stories of these creatures several era’s mythical tales are found in the book and that covers almost all the categories such as Greek, Hindu, Islamic, Maori, Filipino, Norse, Japanese, Inuit, Chilean, Slavic Mythologies and Norse, Scottish, Celtic, French, Filipino Folklores. It’s hard to get a book that combined all this information bound so mystically.

I loved the research the author had put into the story but it more felt like a Wikipedia to me. I...

Aarushi G.: This book explores the Mythical and Magical creatures across six categories which is quite informative.

Each of the creature features an reference to the tale of folklore which encounters the sighting of them.

The illustrations are beautiful created by the artist. However it would have been better if it were in full color.

The author has clearly mentioned from which mythology these creatures belong too and I quite enjoyed many of them which includes references from the Hindu Mythology too.

Each of the creature have a ancient story or a folktale associated with it. Some are worshipped while others are most evasive beats.

Although many creatures have their instances in the form of carvings and depiction on the walls, there are some mentions which can only be seen or told as per the stories by people and there exists no actual proof of them.

The Japanese , Greek, Indian, Norse, Scottish, Fillipino mythology each have their respective creatures worshipped either as protector or destroyer. Some of them are considered good as God while others are evil as demons.

There were many creatures who are interconnected with each other along with...

Saloni SinghSaloni Singh: "MYTHICAL CREATURES AND MAGICAL BEATS" by Zayden Stone is a tremendous book where an author has described many mythical creatures with an excellent research.

The book is mainly divided into three sections with thirty-five chapters. It makes us aware about so many different mythical creatures and their beasts such as Japan, India, Greek, Filipino and more.

As the title suggests, the book consists of mythical creatures, their appearances, significance, and stories related to them. It talks about various creatures like Jatayu, Garud, Sigbin, Cerberus, and many more. It is accompanied by pictures of the creatures along with a description of which timeline they were seen in and what role they played.
It is divided into 6 main sections mainly - Arthropoda, An Ancient Aviary, Cryptic Canines, The Eternal Hiss, Unusual Ungulates, and Aquatic beasts.
You will be introduced to a lot of cultures. Norse, Islam, Hinduism, Greek, Japanese; to name a few.

This book opened up a whole new world for me. Reading this book made me feel so dumb, yet I was awestruck with all the legends and mythologies. The illustrations were just an added bonus to the whole storytelling....

RAJESWARI NANDI: " Mythical Creatures and Magical Beasts: An Illustrated Guide to Monsters from Timeless Folktales, Folklore and Mythology: Volume 1" by Zayden Stone is the pure combination of magic and mythology. D Mason: Quite a captivating book that is full of interesting creatures and monsters from myths and lore. I had only heard of a few of them so they captured my attention immediately. The detailed drawings are black outlines so that they can be colored in if desired, but they also help to get the concept of what the creatures might have looked like. A fun book for kids and adults alike.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
