Comments

Ilana: They are fans of all original Jan and Stan books and this thick rhyming book is no exception. Anytime I can, it goes into a birthday present along with something else. It the kids hates that something else, at least they have this adorable book. Great way to get the kiddos into science and a fun way to make them curious.

Mel: While this is otherwise an educational cute rhyming book it does encourage the false idea of evolution. It’s subtle but it’s there. Parents take note. So saddened to see what was once a faith based family book series has gone over to the dark side.

Love it: Our kids have read this over and over, you'll get many miles out of this book.

Roberto Alicea: My daughter and I love reading this book together. She’s 6, going into first grade, and she’s very active. It can be hard for her to focus on anything technical. This book touches on facts of nature, the calendar, and science basics in quick overviews, getting to the essence of a subject in a fun, easy to remember manner.

Bernie M.: This is one of the few books I reread with my son a lot. Informative and presented in a engaging way. Invokes my child’s interests and ideas for experiment.

Cooper: This is a terrific science book for pre-readers and very early readers; like the main Berenstain Bears books, there isn't that much depth, and it meanders from topic to topic with plenty of space for jokes.

I did spot at least one thing that we now know is false: this book claims that every snowflake is completely different. We now know that this is a factoid, and something that was only assumed true because of how many possible configurations snowflakes have. But that's not terribly bad.

The one weird thing: I grew up with the Berenstain Bears (Stan and Jan's, not the creepy books Mike is doing). And I knew, of course, that the spelling was Berenstain; I even remarked on it as a child because I would have assumed it would have been Berenstein, but it wasn't. The books I see all have the spelling I remember.

But when I read these books as a child, Actual Factual was a female bear. And this book has her as being male. (And it's the same book, meaning the same point in time, so she wouldn't have had time to transition ...)

Mel: I bought this book thinking it could be something to read together, but I think it's better suited for early readers instead. Also, the content is geared heavily towards US. There are a lot of bits about weather and holidays that people who live in Singapore like us would not be able to relate to. Overall, still an okay book.

momof4: This book is a favorite in our house! We've read it over and over and even purchased as a gift for the teacher!

SixtyPlus: To get this much of Berenstein bear goodies in one book at less than a tenner is great, especially when your grandkids are big fans of the BB family.
