Discover the stunning work of Sebastião Salgado in GENESIS, a photography book by Lélia Wanick Salgado. This travel photography book is one of the best on the market, boasting excellent overall satisfaction, binding and page quality, and great value for money. Make GENESIS the perfect gift for the photography lover in your life.Red_Cornet: This book compiles some of the great photos of Salgado. The photos are well rendered and sized right. That means the book is large and weighs a lot but it is worth it to get the quality of his photos. I use the book to study from and write down what I love about each of his photos. So it has become my reference and guide to photography.

Homeworker: The only reason this is not 5* review is due to the portrait format of book which does effect the enjoyment of the photos to a certain extent. However this is not a deal breaker - the diverse places and people in the collection are photographed beautifully. Salgado shows the vastness, the majesty and complete awe of our planet. This book is one of the best things I have bought. Its only downside in terms of wanting to preserve our planet is that it really makes you want to jump on a plane and experience these places for yourself! But it is just full of beauty and it's a lovely book to buy for self or as a present for a photographer or nature lover.

Mr. K: It's a wonderful collection of Mr. Salgado. Lots of wonderful photos I enjoyed so much!
The only shortcoming is the page arrangement. Lots of pictures were split in half by the staple line, which is quite annoying as I tried to spread the book while worrying of tearing it apart. Some other photographers' book has been thought through this problem.
Anyhow, it is still a wonderful photo collection.

Jiri Havlik: The book is meticulously printed, on good quality paper, and the photographs are, most importantly, beautiful, but I have reservations. What good is it to publish a beautiful book when it is so carelessly packaged by the seller that it arrives damaged. And the negligence is not on the part of the carrier, but on the part of Amazon itself. I don't see how anyone puts in a bit of crumpled paper and one small plastic bag filled with air and thinks a heavy book is well secured and will arrive undamaged. I have made this experience several times.

M. Berg: Salgado is probably the finest photographer in his genre working today, but this magnum opus is, by far too "magnum".
* It is far too big
* It is badly curated: there is a lot of great photography and a powerful message in this book, but much of the impact of the great photographs and the message is reduced because there are just too many photographs for the reader to easily digest in a single (or even a few) sitting. The really good stuff gets swamped by the lots and lots of marginal images presented in groups on fold-out pages. It is much akin to information being drowned out by to much undigested data. In reality, this could have been a much better book with no more than 30% of the included images.
* Many of the best images are given two page spreads, meaning a great image is broken up across two pages (that don't even lay flat), lessening the impact of an otherwise excellent image for mere size - which, by the way, makes this book virtually impossible to hold comfortably in your lap. The really good images would have been better served if the book had been produced in a landscape format so that they could be viewed without a break. Fewer images not broken up by...

Rafael Victor Migoyo: The only thing I can think of when I hold this masterpiece in my hand is, "I own THIS".....As a self-taught professional art photographer I learned composition, lighting, and technique from looking at thousands upon thousands of photographs over the years. Sebastia Salgado has been one of my largest influences (along with Arno Rafael Minkkinen), Yousuf Karsh, and Steve McCurry. Having this book in my possession and is just an amazing feeling...Hopefully I can have it signed one day haha.
I understand people's complaints about the full size landscape images being cut off by the double page layout, but for the price this is a literal steal... I wouldn't even call it an issue considering the fact that we have the chance to own images worth thousands of dollars (each) for under $50. Especially considering the amount of work that went into creating this book.
This is a MUST buy if you love Salgado's photography

Chris Shaw: This is a large book, a great book, an important book, a beautiful book. Its avowed purpose is to instill a love of our planet through the medium of magnificent black and white photographs of the world's untamed places, animals, and people, as they were or may have been in the time before history. The artist, Sebastiao Salgado, is a master photographer--a master landscape photographer, a master nature photographer, a master people photographer, and a master aerial photographer. Each of the hundreds of photographs magnificently printed in this book is a masterpiece, even those few printed in smaller than full-page format. There isn't a weak image in the lot. The pictures of unfamiliar places, animals, and people are no less than awe-inspiring. The pictures of more familiar places and animals, such as Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley, and lions, penguins and apes, stand favorable comparison with the very best black and white photographs of the same subjects by other master photographers.
The book's layout gives respectful white space to the images, and while there are some larger images that span double-page spreads, I somehow didn't find this as annoying as I often...

I. G. Wright: As the world's greatest living photographer, any collection by Salgado is not to be missed. This is a massive collection - the book is over 500 pages long. Quality of the reproduction, quality of paper etc is excellent - value for money is outstanding. It goes without saying that there are some truly amazing images here and Salgado is a master of light and 'the moment'. This is in effect an elongated essay and ideas behind the seven year project are articulated in the introduction and give much greater weight to the images. This reflects the constant principle which underpins all his is work - his purpose is not to provoke the viewer to admire the beauty of his images but to understand the issues which have provoked them.
For all this, my initial feeling on first opening the book was of disappointment - although I wouldn't wish to get my reservations about the production of this collection out of proportion. Salgado photographs in landscape format in the main and the book format is portrait - so the images are predominantly presented across two pages with the aesthetics of the images completely ruined by the ugly divisions in the middle - made worse by the thickness of the...
