Kelli: While delivery was good and product itself is good, the Book corners are beat up due to not putting anything in the box to stop it from banging into the side of the box. So great book not great on packaging

CYCOLOGISTCYCOLOGIST: The media could not be loaded.  WONDERFUL resource on our national lands. My book was sold as "used, very good" but is really an overstock item (brand new!!) Quality you'd expect from National Geographic. HIGHLY recommend this book, whether you'd prefer to: skim it for the pics, research the maps, or really dive in and read about each location.
Comprehensive resource on National Parks, Historical Parks & Sites, Lakeshores, Memorials, Preserves, Seashores (Pacific and Atlantic), Monuments, Parkways, and Recreation Areas. Very well put together collection including regional information, MAPS, historical and additional (helpful) information such as: geology, vegetation, visitors, animal life, flora, water systems, fishing, bird watching and more!! I'm including a few index photos to help explain. Well worth every penny (& less $$ than having to purchase additional state/park maps online). This, combined with a national park pass, is a great way to enjoy this BEAUTIFUL country in which we live.

Ralph S. Bovard: “GUIDE TO AMERICA’S BEST IDEA”

The recently released National Geographic Atlas of the National Parks is a spectacular new volume that should be on the coffee table or bedside of every American, whether intrepid adventurer or armchair dreamer. Editor Jonathan Waterman, a former Denali park ranger, adventurer & writer, has done a superb job of capturing the wonder, elegance and stunning beauty of our American wilderness areas. I found that I could flip the book open to any page, pick any of America’s 61 National Parks, start reading, and be captivated by the story that unfolded in Waterman’s fascinating narrative The front cover describes the work as “the first book of its kind, National Geographic Atlas of the National Parks showcases America’s most spectacular landscapes with an inspiring collection of maps, graphics and photographs, inviting newcomers and longtime park visitors alike to experience these magnificent vistas.”

This lovely compilation honoring America’s spectacular National Park system is a timely release. Our parks and wildlife areas are currently threatened by a deregulatory administration that may undo much of the hard work done...

T. Hido: As mandated by its title, the Atlas includes large maps of the National Parks. However, they are essentially identical to the official National Park Service maps also reproduced in  Your Guide to the National Parks: The Complete Guide to all 59 National Parks (Second edition) , so that is not the main draw of the book. Since the website npmaps.com readily provides all of those maps for free, and nobody will lug this large 7 pound coffee-table book around, the considerable space used by those maps could have instead expanded the book contents in the areas where it is lacking: park coverage, and photography.

To fully appreciate it, you must read the Atlas carefully, rather than flipping the pages like you would for a photography book. This is because it offers detailed writing and information based on scientific data not generally present in books for the general public. It not only looks at the geography of the parks, but also at their history and future, discussing environmental and political threats generally glossed over in other books, beyond, yes, climate change. I appreciate that the Atlas brings out the issue of light pollution, or of the Ambler Road in Gates of...
