John B: A really well researched and well written book. Lots of beautiful pictures which entice the reader to visit parts of Scotland that may otherwise go unnoticed! The access information and advice on parking and nearby accommodation is also very helpful. My only concern would be additional publicity of certain honeypot areas, but fortunately many of the locations in this book are quite remote which will hopefully mitigate this risk. I find this is a perfect coffee table book as well as a useful tool for planning road trips and weekend breaks away!

Kathleen J. Holiday: While this book is beautiful, I found it wasn't very user friendly for someone who has never been to Scotland. There is no index of places, and the major cities and towns on the region maps are not easy to see. It's a substantial size and weight, and for that reason, it won't be in my luggage when I go.

Joe SnowJoe Snow: This book is full of promise, which unfortunately it often fails to deliver:
Good points:
1, It's thick, at 312 pages long;
2. It is written in plain English;
3. The photos are plentiful, in colour and good quality;
4. There are lots of suggestions of wild places to visit (although lots are easily accessible at the side of roads). They are good suggestions as I have been to most of them.
Bad points:
1. The very light grey text that gives directions to each place is so light that I can't read what it says. If you want this book, you're going to need a magnifying glass.
The book is split into areas and the map for each area is not at the start of each section. You have to go find it. Annoying.
3. The map has colour coded numbered dots for different types of things (campsites etc) that it discusses. The dots are numbered randomly, not North to South or following any kind of logic, so I was all over the place trying to sort out an itinerary.
4. The book has a lot of space devoted to local shops, businesses, B&Bs, campsites etc. I can find out about these on the internet, and know that they will still exist when I get there.

Eileen: I’d spent months planning our trip out of Inverness through Fort William, a couple of island hops and back on mainland at Ullapool to complete the North West coastline and back to Inverness from Tongue. An amazing trip that was greatly enhanced by this guide. It helped in all the areas visited. I bought it 2 days before we travelled. I get so disappointed with guides usually, but thought I’d take a chance. I’m so glad I did. You’re directed to places you wouldn’t think of stopping. It also has great food places to try and I rate it as the best guide I’ve ever bought. I cannot recommend enough and hope there’s others to purchase.

KLWKLW: This is a great book for finding hidden places throughout Scotland including the islands and within each section are walks, sites to visit, viewpoints to admire, places to eat, stay and/or camp. The emphasis is very different to most travel guides and avoids the typical 'touristy' places in favour of local Natural History and heritage and is ideally suited to those who want to get more in-depth experience of Scotland away from the crowds, those who want to walk lesser known routes, explore and get a feel for the area, find the best viewpoints or maybe take a dip in a remote plunge pool or wild swim in a remote loch. Directions are clear with nearest postcodes given along with grid references and clear directions together with approximate walking times, plus phone numbers and websites where appropriate. Many of the sites are off the much-beaten track and would likely be missed by the casual visitor - including myself who, despite visiting Scotland for the last 12 years, have learned through the book that I've passed by many hidden waterfalls and other places I'd have loved to have stopped at and will now rectify this on my next visit.

Amazon.
