Lily Orn: I first read this when I was 17 and was not ready for it, but I’m glad I did. It blew my mind and changed my life in a profound way. Like a moth into the light, I keep returning to this book over and over again. I must have bought it like 10 times and given it away each time. Now at 42, after my mother died, I decided to read it again and my experience with this book is different. Maybe my ego had dissolved enough to really listen, but I’m always a work in progress. Reading this book is like going on a psychedelic trip. Definitely one of my favorite books of all time. Thank you Ram Dass.

Jackson Tay Bosley: My first wife got this for me in 1971 and I read it while taking LSD. I ended up getting an undergraduate degree in Religion and lived in monasteries for 4 years. The first time I was given the book, I was not ready for it, but prior to us splitting, I read it again, and it elicited a very different response. It's very dated - using language that we used in my hippie days, but the message is clear. And ecumenical. Appreciate that this life is precious. Recognize that our life is time-limited (and we all die). Actions have consequences - what goes around, comes around. And the usual things we expect to bring us happiness (money and fame), don't.
