C.H.A.: Any book that’s written by Rick Steves is good with me. I bought this for my trip to Greece and used it as a reference book multiple times. I even stayed at a couple places that he recommended in his book. Anytime you see a book by Rick Steves and you’re going somewhere by it. I would recommend it.

PhilliciaPhillicia: My husband and I decided to go to Greece for our honeymoon in 2020, but we didn't want to pay an insane amount for a tour guide everywhere we went. We also had NO idea what exactly to do in the areas our tour guide set us up in. We went to more areas than this book covers however I'll focus on the 3 that we used, Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens. We used the book sparingly in Santorini as we didn't have a ton of time there due to flight delays. In Mykonos we used it to find beaches that best fit us, some food places, and even to translate a few things. We ended found the island Delos from this book and the map within saved us a good deal of wandering. In Athens this book was a godsend. The maps for all the ruins were amazing and had great detail. Super easy to follow and not as confusing as maps provided. This includes a map of the city. We learned so much more on our trip using this book than we would have without it. And saved us quite a bit of money too. The only thing I'd wish for is that he'd mark his recommended food spots on a map too. I didn't see them in the book, and those were the hardest for us to find without turning data on, on our phones.

pebru: This guide provided excellent pointers and facts to make my trip to Athens and the Pelopennese informative and enjoyable. I followed most of the suggested routing both for the walking tours as well as the drives. I stayed in several of the recommended accommodations and was not disappointed. I complemented its information with comments on Tripadvisor which often coincided with Rick Steves' advice.

Michelle Benoit: After reading some of the reviews, I feel the need to defend this guidebook. For starters, there is NOTHING misleading about the content. The title of the book tells you exactly what is covered: the capital of ATHENS and the towns/sites found within the PELOPONNESE, which is connected to the mainland and southwest of Athens. Those towns/sites include: Nafplio, Epidavros, Mycenae, Olympia, Kardamyli and the Mani Peninsula, Monemvasia and Delphi. There are a few throwaway chapters on Hydra, Mykonos and Santorini, but for the most part if you want more detailed information on Crete or any other Greek island, look for a book specifically on the GREEK ISLANDS. Complaining that there's no information on anything that ISN'T Athens or within the Peloponnese would be like buying a guidebook titled: "Italy: Venice and the Veneto" then complaining that there's no information on Rome or the wine region including Tuscany.

The book itself is tremendously informative, well-written and beyond useful. Most people traveling to Greece consider Athens a stopover city where they go to see the Acropolis and leave for the islands within 48 hours. Rick Steves does an excellent job of listing other...

Jeanette Kakareka: Thank you very much to Rick Steve's and team for this amazing edition. My boyfriend and I will be traveling to Greece this summer to Athens and Santorini. He gives such wonderful detail that helps you "travel with purpose" and appreciate better what you'll be visiting. So much clarification on historical timelines, art history, transportation tips, and what not to miss. His suggestions have really helped plan our itinerary and change our perspective on a few things that I think will really enhance our journey and help us maximize our time! We'll also be downloading his audio guides to visit some of the big sites in Athens, of course. I've been so enjoying researching our upcoming trip--thanks for the springboard! Thank you thank you!

Hiiflite: I bought this for my sister who will go to Greece next year. My family has travelled Europe extensively on our own and used the Rick Steve's guide books exclusively. He really does have the best ideas. We have always saved far more than the books cost. My advice - listen to what he says. He really knows how to travel on a budget. You are the best Rick Steves!!
