We tried one with my daughter when she felt warm and OMG she was 104!! She didn't seem that hot so we tried another. 102. We tried a third and got another temp. All of those went in the trash and we got the Exergen. We get consistent and reliable temps from it and it's easy to use. We even sometimes get temps while she's asleep. You just rub it from the top of their face to the side. I recommend these to everyone. Since COVID there has been an explosion of the IR types that seem to work well too but this one seems to be most consistent for us.

Doug Mason: This is the middle of June and we in Melbourne have endured the coldest start to Winter for decades, with the temperature failing to reach a maximum of 15 degrees Celsius for almost 3 weeks.
The thermometer will not function when the ambient temperature is lower than 15.5 degrees Celsius, making it unusable when the weather is cold.
If I knew how to return it, I would.

M. Lang: I ordered this thermometer after hearing commercials for it on the radio. I regularly take my own temperature, and I have had difficulty finding thermometers that are accurate. If you look, most are rated to read only within plus or minus 0.5 degrees F or worse. I have tried many that seem to be about 0.7 degrees f off or more. This one seems to live up to its billing. While really made to use on others, I found it fairly easy to scan my own forehead. The reading showed up clearly on the screen. It read within 0.2 degrees F of my old reliable Becton Dickinson under the tongue thermometer that has not been made in a long time. I don't have any way of directly calibrating the readings. Nevertheless, I have found the BD thermometers to be very close to the readings I get at my doctor's office, and this Exergen is the first one I have seen that reads very close to the old BD one. This thermometer does require contact with the forehead. But only a light touch scanned across one side of the forehead for a few seconds. This seems to be the device for those who really want accurate readings.

alex: Didn't want to wrestle w/ my kid while trying to take temps in his armpit. Didn't want to put anything in his mouth or worse places.
This is easy to use after a few test tries, it's easy to read, kinda finicky taking more than one temp in a row, but it works. I'm just not 100% sure how accurate it is aside from it shows different temps on different people around the same time.

Theepa: Not sure if it's just our family but no one here seems to be able to make it work properly. Expensive waste of money. Gave it a second star because reviews say others made it work...

Amazon Customer: Works quickly! But it's highly sensitive to moisture. You will want to really wipe the skin dry. The accuracy is hard to test, right, since how can you be really sure? The best I can say is that it's consistent. So if it's wrong, it's wrong consistently. Like most people, I bought this in part because of Covid-19. My advice, check your temp a bunch of times at different times of day to get a sense of what your range is, that way you'll at least be aware of changes if/when they occur
