Essie W.: Great book for the newly married couple or new parents. An enlightening book for the older generations of women that have felt like married single parents for years. It puts language to your lifelong battle and validates what you’ve always really known. A guide to even the playing field.

Joanne Roberts: My husband and I fit into the category of husband and wife with two kids so the context of this book was great for us but I am not sure if it would fit other family set ups.
We have really explored how to achieve more fair play in our household and shared family life. We read it a chapter at a time sharing the book and then discussing each area. We haven't played the card game yet but we wanted to find out the reasons why we both felt frustrated.
If you are lucky enough to have a partner that is prepared to read then this is a great book.

Alex: Honestly, I should have expected it from the summary, but I hoped that the book would be more inclusive of all kinds of couples and not lay so heavily on the heteronormative values, but I was wrong. This made it super hard to read for anyone who wasn't within this tiny box. I think there were some great ideas in this book, but it was overshadowed by the assumption that everyone reading this book was a woman and had children and a husband who didn't contribute. That's probably the experience of most people reading this book, but it sounded far more general and widely applicable from the summary.

Jessie Harrold: Wow. This book takes such a complex problem as the gendered division of labour and makes it actually doable to deal with. Every couple needs to read this!

Cristina Danila: Eve takes the edge off sensitive topics and family chores and emotional struggles as you are both building your family life. This fair play game teaches you to correctly evaluate each ones involvement in the household and family management.
Very often women underestimate the amount of time they sacrifice for the family and how detrimental that is actually on the pong term. Thank you for coining the term Unicorn Time … i take it! 💓

T.J. Hudon: This was a great addition to my household routine. My partner and I were really struggling with the division of responsibilities. Reading this book and laying out what went on behind the scenes really helped him to understand and see the need for a more equal work load. I highly recommend this book.

Morgan D. FarrMorgan D. Farr: Let me start off by saying that today's book is one that many not be popular in many Christian circles. Fair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much to Do (and More Life to Live) by Eve Rodsky is not a "Christian" book. In fact a lot of people would probably deem it a feminist text and move on. But, before I jump into that, lets talk about what this book is.
Fair Play is an acknowledgement that in most marriages the majority of work inside the home falls primarily on the shoulders of women. In fact, modern women are being CRUSHED by the weight of everything that they are rightly and unjustly expected to do for their families.
Fair play is a system that helps couples to balance out the work load. The best part about this book is that Rodsky says clearly how to do that. In a lot of marriage books this idea is summed up as, "have a conversation with your spouse about responsibilities" and then they move on. This book IS the conversation you need to have with your spouse, it is also the conversation on how to make the changes needed.
I will say that when my husband and I used this system we had to add in categories because we are a military...

New Mom DC: I'm not a Reese Witherspoon book club member. I'm a working mother and wife (I found Fair Play through a recent finance podcast). Two years ago I hit a similar breaking point to the author's "blueberry meltdown." After 13.5 years of marriage, to a man willing to share the work, I woke up and realized he was treating me like a doormat - I'll spare you the details.
I tried and tried strategies to improve my situation. After a few failed mini-efforts (including trading lives for a week to promote empathy), we finally landed on a system that is extremely similar to the cards recommended in Fair Play (we use assignable to-do lists in the Wunderlist App). Every strategy in the Fair Play system is part of our own. We’ve needed it all — the dredging of work from the shadows to the light, the value setting, the ownership from conception to execution, the avoiding using your spouse as back-up for everything, and even the built-in time-off for self-development. We hit bumps. I worried what my in-laws thought — but we stayed the course.
It worked, and we are better than ever (and, yes, that means more and better sex, too). The system freed us not only from the nit-picky...

Britt: I was excited to read this after hearing such good things about it. It is heavily focused on parents and parenting. I found myself annoyed at how much it focused on parenting. I knew there would be parts aimed at parents, but it was the whole book.
I didn't like how repetitive it was. The book could have been more succinct. That said, it was an easy read and easy to understand. For the right person, it would be great.
