Liza: I wanted a simple book to thumb through quickly to find what I needed to know, and this is it. However the font is smaller than it should be. It's not only that my eyes are a lot older, even though they are. But compared to other books the font is too small! Also there is extra room at the bottom so they probably could have gone up one size and still kept to the same page numbers.
Other than that the book is a good size for the basics. Contents, recipes for blends, a Glossary, Resources and a few references as well as other recommended reading and of course a good Index help offset the lack of author information. It is not my only book but it's good to not feel like I'm getting lost in a big Kindle book.

Therapist: An informative and interesting reference book - exactly what I needed as a beginner building up my collection of oils particularly for my new electric mist diffuser. I love exploring the benefits of blending particular oils everyday to give me a boost in the morning or de-stressing then relaxation and mood soothing in the evening. Working from home and having the gorgeous scents wafting upstairs to my office keeps me going! The book provides many 'recipes' for wellbeing, ailments, cosmetics, candles, cleaning, perfumes etc. Thank you for a great book.

light_imp: Great little reference Bible just exactly what I needed after building up my collection of oils for looking up their benefits and what they blend with. The majority of the book is a reference list of oils with three chapters on all you needs to know from safety, history and much more besides. It is really informative and plenty enough to get you started. The only problem is that it is missing some oils I have like may chang, pine needle and vanilla. But still references over 100 oils and is well worth the £5 I paid. It has lots of recipes for ailments, wellbeing, cosmetics, soap, candles, air fresheners, cleaning solutions, perfumes

Rachelle: Great book for beginners, I have purchased a few essential oil books before and now that I have been using them for over a year now, I am able to understand what would have been easier for me at the start. The first book I purchased is more useful to me now, with more detailed descriptions of ailments and how to treat them with formulas and so on; but this book which I have recently purchased is excellent, and would have been very helpful when I first started. This books layout is simple and easy to read. It contains, in alphabetical order each essential oil the author chose to include. It's easy to find what essential oil your looking up. Under each essential oil you will find the description, it's origin, therapeutic and spiritual uses and it also includes what other oils mixes well with the specific mentioned oil being described. So as a beginner not knowing exactly what oil to mix with what oil, this is very helpful. Its easy to look up whatever oil you have, then say, find another oil you have and see if they go together and can be mixed with one another. I would have given this book a gleaming 5 stars but some oils that I looked up were not included in the book. But don't...

Miss E.: To be fair, it does say for beginners. This really is for complete beginners and I would suggest getting this before you get your oils to help you select the ones to get. This is because there are a few recipes at the back all with different oils. I had got quite a few oils for my birthday, 12 I think. But there were only about 4 'recipes' I could make with my selection. Also it is American so has measurements in ounces instead of ml.
The majority of the book is made up of basic pages on the individual oils themselves. Not all the oils. But it is basic. It doesn't tell you any oils you can use in place of each other or explain anything in depth. I was particularly disappointed with the small section about mixing oils. It says it is important to mix the oils in a special sequence and chemical reactions change if you don't mix in the right sequence. It does not tell you any examples or what the sequence is or go any further. Not even on the recipes themselves. It then tells you about how there are four kinds of essential oils in blending, 'personifiers', 'enhancers', 'equalizers' and 'modifiers' but doesn't tell you which oils are in which category so you are still no wiser...

Laura B: I feel kind of silly for purchasing this book. One thing is for sure - I WILL be sending it back!
Problem #1 There is no author or even editor(s) listed anywhere.
There are none listed in the book. There are none listed on the publisher's website (which is a whole other issue - I have my doubts about the publishing company as well). If there is a book about herbs, essential oils, or anything regarding my health, I want to know WHO is giving me the information. I want to know what qualifications they have to be making the claims they make.
Problem #2 There are no references in this book.
If there is no author, there should at least be good references. None of the claims in this book have any annotations what-so-ever. There is a reference section in the back, but as far as I know, these are just books the (unknown) author skimmed over at some point and picked up some pointers from.
Problem #3 The recommendations in this book for oil usage do not align with those taught by certified aromatherapists.
For example, most of the oils are recommend for usage without dilution and are recommended to take internally. The only places that I find these practices...

Amazon Customer: I am fairly novice when it comes to essential oils but I've been pounding away at my keyboard researching the different properties of essential oils for over a month now. I finally decided that it would be best to break down and just buy a book... I didn't want a book that was know-it-all and was going to tell me what to do with them, how to blend them and everything else, I wanted a book that would allow me to discover their individual properties alone. And I'm happy to report that this book does exactly that! Yes, there are some general guidelines, blend suggestions, recipes, etc., but what I wanted was info on each EO's individual properties. This book has around 65 of the more common EOs with a breakdown of: Description, Origin, Properties, Application, Primary Uses, Blends and Safe Use.
For a beginner book this is spot on and just what I had in mind while looking for a book of this nature. There is also plenty of room for me to add notes onto the information shared in this book. I think this will be my go to guide until I'm ready to graduate to something more intense, like Modern Essentials *5th Ed. I gave Essential Oils for Beginners a 5 star rating- And, overall, I...
