Bookwormwood: Once this little baby was set up and I learned how to use it. . . .it is marvelous! It meets all my scanning needs and desires. I wanted the scanner hooked to my computer. The ES-580W set up/connected very quickly and easy. But I did not know it! The scanning starts from the computer not the scanner. I called Customer Service, they were very fast to respond and extremely helpful and patient. I confused the touch screen with the computer screen, basically doing the "right moves" but backwards. As with most guides, it was online and hard for me to follow even with the quick links. Thanks to Epson support I am a very fast learned and still exploring features. Truly appreciate the fact that I can name and place the new file after scanning. Overall I have had a very quick learning experience. If you are a previous scan user, no biggie!

AmazingLife1Step@thetime: I don't like to install 3rd party software but the EPSON software for this device is pretty nice, and works on Windows 11 and MacOS (Latest). The scanner itself is pretty good.

Mrs.H: This scanner drives me crazy! I scan large files and need something fast and reliable. While I have no complaints about scan speed and capability, it's reliability is severely lacking. Any time I want to use it, I have to waste my time trying to get it to connect with my HP laptop (it's connected via USB to a hub that works perfectly with everything else I use) or getting it connected with wifi which is ridiculous because we have business internet with a high end mesh router and it's the only thing I fight with in the whole building. Sometimes the wifi issue is a quick fix, but more often than not, it's a restart. In fact, I've just given up trying and start the process by turning off the scanner and restarting it. Sometimes I even have to remove the device and add it again to get it to work! $400 is a lot of money for something i have to work so hard to use. My biggest mistake is that I did not send it back immediately, assuming it was user error and that I would figure it out.
Lesson learned.

- Flexible reliable document scanner. Can scan-to-network drive and make use of presets directly on the scanner without having to install special software or drivers on any computers or tablets in the house.
Software/drivers were supplied, but they're not needed to operate this unit.
- Reliable sheet feeding; paper jams that do occur are usually limited to a missed staple or cut-outs on the the paper, or setting safety settings to high/conservative.
- Successfully scanned >25,000 pages of material within the past 6 weeks and it's very reliable for both one-off scans and near continuous scanning over several hours at a time.
- Can access settings via HTTPS page on local LAN.
- Auto skipping of blank pages and auto-correction of paper skew are fantastic!
- Scanner is easy to access and clean - the moving parts pop-out and pop-in intuitively.
- Picture quality is limited (see CON below); however, configurable cropping and shadow delete are nice features to have when bulk-scanning hundreds of old physical photos. Color tones and contrast appear good compared to trial-and-error flatbed scanner, and dust on pics isn't as noticeable.

Luiz Ricardo Selva: Há muitos anos, comprei o Scanner EPSON GT S50; que até hoje funciona com algumas limitações.
Já conhecendo o desempenho do produto, comprei desta vez o ES-580W e tive uma grata surpresa.
De fato, é muito bom mesmo.
Recomendo a quem queira comprar um excelente scanner prático, robusto e produtivo.

Cal: I wanted to buy the Fujitsu ix1600 at first because of its folding and dust protecting design, but then as I was reading into its manual I noticed that it is not capable of scanning directly to NAS or shared drive which to me is a must-have feature because I don't always want to have a computer connected to it just to do scanning. This Epson model seems to be the same as the RR-600w which has different color and with additional software included. I didn't want to justify paying extra $100+ just to get the PDF software so I decided to just get the lowest cost possible machine with the same features.
With this machine I can create multiple pre-sets with path pointing to a Network Folder for different purposes. (eg. Home Bills, Work Documents, Archive Doc before Shred), this way I can start scanning to PDF as I discover/locate unwanted paper docs and scan them before I destroyed them knowing I have a digital backup. (This to me is the one and only reason I'm getting an expensive scanner). It was very disappointing that all the companies out there wanted to make you Scan to Cloud, but honestly, Bills and work docs are sensitive and I'd never put them in the Cloud, not to mention I...
