Amazon Customer: Suppose this Elitech HLD-200 Plus helped me diagnose the ac issue on my '03 Taurus, and saved me A LOT of time and money! I had 2 worn out valve cores and the Elitech detected them very quickly. Tried cheap cores and problem persisted. Called Ford and got a couple OEM cores, now our ac is FREEZING us out! Going on 2 weeks and she's still blowing out 48 degree air! Would not have been possible to get ac back up and running this quickly without this phenomenal device, and believe me, I was skeptical! I resisted ordering for a day or two, poo-pooing my fathers suggestion... happy I finally listened and tried it! FYI, this model does come with a spare head (2 heads in total - as pictured).

JavierFrancisco: The HVAC guy couldn't find the leak and he refilled the system with R22 anyway. Bought this unit and found the leak in 5 minutes, a threaded connector on the evap coil for the high pressure line wasn't totally tight so was leaking. He never even checked that part for a leak, he was convinced it was the compressor outside but this unit found nothing outside.

J. Powers: This detector helped me isolate an HVAC leak on my car, but it was a pain to use. I had a lot of random false positives with it, so I needed to shut it off, let the air settle, and go at it several times to kind of pin-point what was real and what was false. After messing about for an hour or so, it did help me to confirm a known leak and locate two suspected ones.

The sensitivity of the unit isn't the best if you have a very slow leak (say, losing only 1 PSI a week) -- I had to hold the unit near the suspected leak points and bend the A/C lines to kind of convince the refrigerant to leak faster. I had a very slow leak in the evap as well, which it didn't detect until I ran the car A/C for about 15 minutes and let the refrigerant build up after shutting it off.

I give this four stars solely based off value for money here. It isn't anywhere near as good as the $800 tool truck product your auto tech will be using, so you might be better off going to a shop and just paying the diagnosis fee to locate the leaks. If you are determined to DIY, then this tool will work -- with a lot of patience.
