Muzzleguy: This was purchased to replace the rods in a Fostar kit, also purchased on Amazon. The rods are a thread pitch that will fit other fire starting systems. I tested it with a dry rod and a dry Kleenex tissue. After scraping off the black coating, the rod sparked hot the first try and ignited the tissue. Way more fire starts and more reliable than matches or a lighter. This is going in my overnight "survival/oops, can't make it back to base camp" kit. Coupled with some fire tabs or powder, shouldn't have any problems with fire.
