rose e: I had built 4 coops that you had to climb in & out of than now diagnosed with 2 different types of arthritis made doing that almost impossible. My walk in chicken tractor will be easier to tend the chickens. It will give them more freedom to be chickens

deGraaf Garlic FarmsdeGraaf Garlic Farms: This book is full of great information and for the most part way to follow instructions to build this chicken tractor. The only confusing part was when it came to the doorway. I'm pretty sure I didn't build it the same way but I use my own skills and measuring and made a door that works anyway.

Diane P.Diane P.: I built this chicken tractor in the spring of 2016 and the plans are really good. I made some small modifications and added 2 perches length wise to allow the birds a chance to get off the grass. They sleep there every night. I have layers in this tractor and have duplicated the front door side on the rear to allow nest boxes. I haven't figured out how to convert this into a house for the winter yet but I have a few ideas. If I had to do it over I would have purchased my wheels before cutting my skids as I miscalculated the tire size too large and had to step down to a smaller diameter, not a big deal but my yard has some uneven parts and a larger wheel would have been better. I am considering making a cantilever front wheels but haven't gotten to that yet. Installed game cameras on two corners as predators that dig can and will and did get under. It's fun to watch the video. I used 1/4 hardware cloth on the entire coop and fastened it with a crown stapler. It's really tough and no predators have been able to move the metal at all. Used spring loaded hinges to make the door close behind me. Move it every day, anything longer and they will take down the grass to nothing. Sometimes...

Granted, with the increased costs of materials over the years from when this was originally written, you may find the cost about double, but still following this you will end up with minimal waste. I ended up taking the basic design, and adding a built-in chicken coop at the wheel end for our laying chickens.
