Amazon Customer: A powerful explanation about the way we were supposed to develop as men and the different stages we should go through. The book explains what God intended, what can go wrong in this imperfect World and the devastating effects this can have on some people. Moreover though, the book offers hope in the form of God's love for each of us as individuals.
I think all men should read this for their own sakes, for the sake of those around them and for the sake of their children.

Mr. Peter Carroll: John eldredge is passionate about masculinity and how men in our twentyfirst century society are living without a father!

Many of us had fathers but they were either ineffective (due to their own lack of fathering) or were absent or worse abusive. Either way we live our lives without that key relationship which should guide us through the minefield of growing into a Man!

In this book John describes his interpretation of the stages of manhood and the needs and lessons that each will bring to the boy and young man and older man as he passes through this life.

In my view we can either continue to try to wing it on our own or we can wise up and realise that we need a mentor and guide through this life.

John points us to God, not a bad substitute for a heart that is seeking fatherly affirmation!

Philologos: Before you buy this book, there are two things you should know. First, it was written for men, and for men alone. Generally, there could be a similar book for women, but this one isn't. Second, the book is largely a reproduction of material from "The Way of the Wild Heart."

Having said this, this is an excellent book. Eldredge describes the stages of a man's journey through life - from the beloved son and the cowboy through various other stages to the sage. He describes what these stages ideally look like, what they are meant to be, but he also explains the wounds that ordinary men like you and me suffer during those periods. It is his perspective on life and manhood (a perspective you don't come across very often in church) that helps you reflect on your own life.

Eldredge's book is easy to read and very encouraging. Well worth reading.
