Gasman45: A good summary of the elements in the periodic table, their histand and importance.
Its a pity however that there are quite a few typographical errors that could have been easily picked up by proof reading by someone with knowledge in the field.

Maguette Fall: My boyfriend loved it

Tiffani Reed: I love this book, I like the periodic table of elements and I love you author who made this book.

Elizabeth Osborne: As a know-nothing I can offer no critical insights. This was a gift for my son, who is doing a phd. in pharmaceutical biochemistry. He was very pleased! For big fans of the periodic table, Amazon also sells a shower curtain with the said table depicted thereon. Also a big hit with scientific offspring.

Jo P: Excellent, not-too-complicated book. Christmas present for my grandson, who asked for and received a Periodic chart for his wall. I'm ordering a copy for myself.

Wonderwomanrules: My 7 yo son is obsessed with the periodic table. He's memorized it in large part because of this book. While this is clearly meant for an adult audience, I am able to translate the text easily for my son. The pictures are wonderful. It is a great gift for any science lover or enthusiast hoping to learn more about the periodic table.

cakeNbacon: The preview is spot on. I bought this book because I thought I would read it and I do. It's interesting because the element's description is 1-2 pages. It's short enough where you don't feel like you're reading a dull textbook. It's more similar to snippets from from a magazine summary. The colors pop on the pictures and cover. It's a likable and pretty book in person. I bought the hard copy because I saw this book at a store and I knew that I would love having this to flip through the pretty pictures or re-read a page here and there.

Hotblack Desiato: A very interesting book for the would-be chemist or armchair scientist. Each element gets the same treatment - history of discovery, main uses and interesting facts. Who knew smoke detectors use americium which is more radioactive than weapons-grade plutonium?

However I did spot quite a number of contradictions in the text i.e. the main entry for gold notes the largest nugget was 112kg but the text below the accompanying image states the largest nugget weighed 78kg. There are a number of similar errors dotted throughout the book which annoyed me a bit but didn't detract too much from the overall pleasure. Perhaps the author just wants to see if you're paying attention...

Minus one star for the errors - now write out "I must proof-read my work" one hundred times.

K. L. Hemmings: A beautifully produced guide to the Periodic Table and known elements, with lots of interesting information about when, and by whom (and often how) the elements were discovered, and how they have, and are being put to use. The fascinating Introduction explains how the Periodic Table came about, and it also explains the structure of atoms.
The whole guide is written in a bright and often amusing manner, with a page given to the description and information about each element, with the opposite page showing a superb photograph.
In my opinion this book should be in the possession of every science (especially chemistry) student, and who knows, hopefully it may inspire everyone who reads it, to take an interest in science.
