Irina: I love nature in all it forms. Back in childhood one of my favorite books to look at was an encyclopaedia on rocks. If I would have had this book - I would have loved it even more. I might finally learn the names of the rocks. Do I need to give it to children? Great nature books, I got the whole set! They are so beautiful and interesting too.

Suzanne: We have everything in this series except the beetle one, and the other books are FANTASTIC. However, this one was a big disappointment. It's not totally rubbish - it just lacks the sparkle and wonder of the other books. The topic really doesn't play to the author's and illustrator's strengths.
The text reads like a textbook - a dry recitation of facts. It has many more technical and "fancy" words used when a perfectly straightforward one would do - "ingest" vs "eat", for example. And it's SO full of numbers. Every rock measurement is given in straight numbers, without reference to anything that has meaning to a child. (e.g. 1000 ft rather than X times bigger than Y, or X million years old) And the adjectives... "a rock is galactic"? What does that even mean?
The illustrations of the rocks on the endpapers are beautiful, but the ones in the book just don't quite hold up to the others in the series. The layouts are just... like... some rocks. Whereas in the others in the series, you get beautiful intricate zoomed-in pictures of plants and animals in a novel perspective.
This was not the right topic for the series, and I would recommend not buying this book....

Cece: Great illustrations and accurate information, although every other page has a different font and the children struggled with reading the parts of the book that were in cursive.

HS: My daughter loves this whole series! Beautiful illustrations, engaging information... whimsical prose. And they’re shockingly affordable. When we received our first as a gift (A Butterfly Is Patient), I assumed it had cost twice as much. It’s just a really nice book series. I plan to buy most of them for my daughter. She’s 3.5 and has already learned to identify multiple species of butterflies and types of rocks, just from reading these books at bedtime.

Amazon Customer: I was surprised how lovely these books are and bought the whole series for my grandkids. When they are done, I will enjoy looking at them. They cross between art and information.

Kaylan Wolke: The book is great! Exactly what I wanted, but the condition was a little lack luster. It looked as if it had been kicked around on a warehouse floor for ten minutes before being placed in the box. I had to wipe the entire cover off with a wet wipe and it came away with a gross green dust all over the wipe. I have no idea what was all over it but it was gross.

Melissa: This series is amazing. The books are high quality and provide information geared to children on the various topics featured in the books. The artwork in these books is detailed, beautiful and captivating for children and adults alike. When this series was used in our kindergarten class, the children enjoyed them very much and they led to different inquiries and ‘research’ projects. Beautifully written and illustrated!
