This cover is made of an insulated material to provide maximum protection for your hose and help reduce energy loss.T: This sock covers the portable A/C's plastic hose housing, but insulates / traps the air inside and which slows its escape process / venting out the window way down. It may also make the machine work harder, because the hot air becomes trapped against the hose part of the machine and for a longer period of time. The only thing the sock did work for was keeping the heated plastic hose from directing the extra heat and back out into the room of our house that was trying to be cooled off.

Anonymous6789: This works well to reduce heat. The only reason in gave 4/5 is because it’s a little short and lose on the 5” hose, but it still gets the job done for the most part. It looks better than having just the hose and looks clean.

Kyle: These things are a game changer for Any portable a/c unit with a 6 inch hose. I bought 2 because my air conditioner has an intake and an exhaust. The thought behind insulating the intake is that I dont want outside heat radiating through the tubing and into my room, thus making the a/c work harder and longer.
These things are pricey, but it's all about the material they used. The quality is there, almost no perceptible heat emanating from exhaust tubing/duct with this thing on it.
It works good.
It aint easy to install these things, but some time and patience goes a long way. I found it easier to just keep the hose accordioned closed, shove it in this insulation, and then unaccodion it open inside the sleeve keeping it as straight and even as possible while stretching the hose out, and then manipulating it into the shape it needed to be while attached to the a/c unit and the window bracket panel adapter thing.
--Side Note: I just used clear packing tape to keep the hose and their screw on adapters together to keep the hose duct from popping off, as these do indeed increase the rigidity of the duct and making it more difficult to manipulate into a shape...

Stephane Grenier: Although you can't expect miracles it did have a definite impact of cooling the room between 2-5 C. This might not seem like a lot but it can make the difference between say 28C and 23C on a warm day, or even 30C and 25C. The difference tends to be bigger on especially warm days. On cooler days the different is more that your AC unit will fire up less. The biggest impact is really on hot days.
The exhaust hose of the portable AC generated a lot of heat and putting this on completely stopped that heat which especially helped on warm days where the AC couldn't keep up. It's amazing how much heat is churned back into the room through the exhaust tube and this definitely had a noticeable impact.
It works as expected and I would very much recommended it. Not only will it help cool down the area but it can also save on electricity.

Dixon: Quite expensive for what it is, but my PAC unit is so much more efficient - and quieter - now. The heat that’s being extracted from the room just goes out through the hose, instead of a proportion of it immediately coming back through the material of the hose. It turns out that a lot of the unit’s noise was actually coming from vibrations of the hose itself, and this great little cover has drastically reduced that too.
Also has the added bonus of blocking out light that was diffusing in to the room through the hose (positioned through blackout curtains) - sometimes my daughter likes to sleep in the living room, where my PAC unit is, and now when she sleeps in there she doesn’t think 4:30am is getting up time!

Spatch1971Spatch1971: We have a couple smaller Danby air conditioners in two small upstairs bedrooms. They did a somewhat okay job at cooling the space but I picked up one of these insulating socks to see if it would improve the cooling performance. In all honesty I can’t say for sure whether it’s making a material difference. That said, on the unit without the sock the exhaust tube does get warm to the touch so that is heat radiating into the room. On the unit with this insulating sock installed there is little to no heat radiating from it. So from that perspective the product is doing what it advertises. I did ask my son who uses that bedroom if he noticed a difference and he said he did. So there’s that.
As to installation, it honestly wasn’t terribly difficult. Simply compress the exhaust hose, then fully insert it into the sock. Then expand the exhaust hose to the necessary length and then reconnect to the unit/window.
On balance though I’m not sure I’ll buy a second sock for the other bedroom. It gets sufficiently cool as it is, and at 80 bucks (at time of this writing) this insulating sock is a pricey accessory.

JL: I have never written a review, I felt this product was worth a share.
Background ; I work in a technical capacity , Electrical & Mechanical and had low expectations for this product.
The Problem with many portable home AC units:
The HOT air exhaust is just below the COLD air intake, the exhaust hose on my unit becomes almost too hot to the touch during operation, so the cold air intake is drawing heated air in that it must then cool to make you comfy. Additionally the HOT air exhaust duct going to your window or wall is radiating heat BACK into the room as well just like a heater. AC or Heater, which one is it?
Is this good for your portable AC room cooling Efficiency: NO, it increases cost and impacts the ability of the unit to do it's desired function, COOL Your Room with a typical hose found on most.
Results, two areas of interest:
NOISE:
I immediately noticed a reduction in the horrible noise and oscillation from my AC unit , I could not hold a Zoom call in my office it was so distracting with R2D2 ( my ac unit nick name) placed 10 Feet away.
After the Sock install I was able to hold a Zoom call with no issues. I did not expect...

Dan M.: Ok, this was not the easiest to get onto the hose and was a little bit longer than the hose on my DeLonghi portable a/c. When I tried it on my other portable, an LG brand, it went on easier and fit the hose length exactly as it is intended to, meaning it works great when it’s matching size with the hose. The hose needed to be stretched fully to fit right. On either unit it did work great as far as insulation to stop the heat just radiating out of the entire length of the hose when it was on all the way. Seemed to stop any issue of heating the room from the exhaust hose and made both of the a/c units actually cool a room the size they claim on the unit. In the over 110 degree Phoenix heat of summer having this on the exhaust hose of the unit let them get the temp of the room between about 2 and 4 degrees. It’s hot enough that they never cycle off and it’s a few degrees warmer than you want inside, so that possible 4 degree lower feels great.
A little expensive, which is a trade off for looks really, A much cheaper alternative is insulation for a round duct the same size, but this looks worlds better than silver bubble wrap any day,
Minus one star because it was...
