Cherie Elias Saly: I Read this book in a day and a half. The characters kept me deeply invested in the story. I Loved all the characters. The two lead characters Leslie and Jillian through letters, journal told their story of friendship and life events throughout their lives. It was easy to follow the story even though I was reading events from different characters. I laughed and cried as their stories unfolded against the backdrop of history.
I would definitely recommend this story. It is a book I will re read.

Jeaniemac: This book is a tour de force. The panoply of several generations of a friendship that would be the envy of any two women is beautifully portrayed, as it follows Jillian and Leslie's friendship from elementary school through late middle age. Their many challenges and the way they faced them, together and separately, is set against the accurately portrayed history of the USA from the 1950s through the first decade of the 2000s has such thrilling authenticity. The plot, character development, and settings are skillfully woven. I lived through those years and felt as though I relived them in this gorgeous book. Thank you!

Susan Reid: Unusual form of writing a novel but it had me hooked within the first few pages. Felt as though I knew the characters and enjoyed following their lives.

Kindle Customer bleak: It was a comfort as I just lost my husband and son. Made pain a little lighter and was able to concentrate enough to read this when I hadn't been able to read, watch tv , only feel worst pain ever. I never imagined the pain and how much friends help.. The book was a help to release the pain with tears. and have a friend from childhood that like Jillian's. . Best friends are greatest comfort. Recommend it for people who are going through worst time of their lives and friends urge you to cry and cry with you. . No one can imagine the pain or how comforting friends who understand how hard it is to be alone and how much their caring helps. Made me realize how being alone is so smothering, like having heart and body torn in pieces. It was less painful with son as had my husband always with me. and so was easier to not drown in darkness and pain. Without someone you want to die. Don't be alone and try to not think as not breathing is scary and painful- like having darkness smother you. Thanks Debbie. You had to experience it to be able to express the pain so well. .
