CYGOLITE Hotshot High-Power 2-Watt Bicycle Rear Light

treble101: I have tried multiple rear bike lights, and none of them did really satisfy me for daytime rides. This one however is great! I also like it that you can change the speed of the 'blink'. Also, it mounts really well to your bike, it is not going to move and I like it that you can tilt the light so it is straight while my seat post has an angle. I was first thinking of getting the 150 lumnes, but this one is bright enough. The only minus is that the charging connector is the fatter old type usb, mini USB, so not micro or C, so I have to have another cable at my 'charging bank'. I guess this model has been around for some time. As I have just gotten this light so can't say anything about how it holds up over time, in the rain, or battery endurance. Hula Grammie: lasted longer than Garmin 520 on century ride-gets 5 stars for that alone as difficult to find lights and other bicycle products that will last a century or longer ride; older power cord connection, and not exactly intuitive 2-button controls. Could use an updated charging connection i.e. "C" and one button control like other products including Bontrager light. overall great buy

jorge: Easy to use. Lots of different flash modes all with adjustable speeds and of course a continuous on mode as well. Brightness is excellent. It is a little bulky compared to other lights but the intensity and battery life make up for it. The mount is very cheap. It gets the job done but is very flimsy and won't fit around anything but a standard seat post.

Steve: I bought the same light about 10 years ago and it still works as new. Brightness and battery life is still one of the best on the market even after years of abuse in all sorts of weather exposure, which is very impressive.

So, I decided to get a new one for my second bike. Received it and sadly, it was DOA. Did not work at all. That happens... Vendor said to deal directly with Amazon, so I did. Amazon sent a replacement promptly, and that one works just fine.

However, although it looks exactly identical as my old one, the battery life seems to be not quite as good for some reason.

That's why the star rating is reflected accordingly for this review.

I am suspecting that the difference in battery life is due to a change in supplier, and when considering that battery is made of chemicals, it's understandable from a technical perspective that not all have the same performance over the years, since chemical batteries are like a fine-tuned recipe with specific ingredients.

Either that, or it's that the electronics running the system is using chips that consume more energy, which I don't believe is a plausible cause. Indeed, transistors nowadays are...

Thruppence: My daily fourteen mile rides begin around 4:00 a.m., so I want my bike to be as visible as possible. I will not spend time commenting on the quality and brightness of the Hotshot, because hundreds of other reviewers have said it all. It is BRIGHT, but it is also DIRECTIONAL, so you need to consider that when you choose where and how to install it. I could not put mine on the seat tube because I have a seat bag, so I decided to put it on the taillight hanger on the back of that bag. First, I adjusted the bag so the back-end was as close to vertical as I could get it. Then I slipped the Hotshot's clip over the bag's nylon hanger. To test it, I waited till dark and then put the bike's back-end a few feet in front of the garage door. From there, the Hotshot projected a one foot diameter beam onto the garage door. With the bike in the upright position (not on the kickstand), the light was straight in line with the bike frame and wheels (so no left or right adjustment was needed). I then moved the bike about four car lengths away from the doors and checked again. The left/right positioning was still good, but the light pointed down a little too much to be seen from a long distance by...
