This CURT 18110 48 x 20-Inch Tray Hitch Cargo Carrier is the perfect solution for transporting large and bulky items. With a 300 lbs weight capacity, 1-1/4, 2-In Adapter Shank, and a tray-style cargo rack, this cargo carrier is sure to meet your needs. The steel construction makes it durable and sturdy, while the mesh base makes it easy to clean any mess. It's also easy to install and comes with great customer support. Make sure your next trip is a breeze with this cargo carrier – it's one of the best Vehicle Cargo Baskets around! Mike D.: Liked: sits low enough to allow the hatch to open and shut even when loaded with cargo. Has large holes for straps or a cargo net.
Disliked: took longer than I hoped to assemble, but once it's together it feels very solid. Would have been nice to get some reflector stickers in the box for better visibility when parked at night.
Overall: it's great for when you just need a bit more cargo space in a smaller vehicle.

Daniel RuscoDaniel Rusco: Many other photos on here show the middle support piece installed on top of the metal mesh. While there’s an intuitive sense to that assembly, it leaves the wire mesh with little support on the underside. The support price is actually meant to be installed underneath the mesh, to provide more surface area for the mesh to rest on. The instructions don’t make this very clear, so one star off, as it appears this is a common mistake with the potential to cause the mesh to break.

Scott Walters: I have a 1.25 inch receiver on my Nissan LEAF, so options were somewhat limited. This was a good choice. Easy to assemble, reasonably solid, and easy to attach/detach. Used it on a 90 minute drive out and then back, with a fairly heavy cooler and two hard side suitcases attached. Worked exactly as expected, and we were able to get four adults and all their stuff for a 3 night houseboat trip loaded into a LEAF. That's saying something.
You will want to be sure to keep the load even side to side. When I started reloading for our trip home, I put the cooler on first at an extreme end, and it listed a few inches to starboard. Re-centering the load solved the issue. I think we had around 100 lbs on the rack, and it performed just fine. Would definitely buy again.

Chris in Miami: I had the prevoius model which was 45 pounds compared with this 35 pounds. The previous model lasted about 8 years before it rusted out, which I figure is pretty good for South Florida near the beach. This new model is 2 pieces bolted together and is lighter and less stiff, but has a new cross-member below to help stabilize. I hope I get 8 more years from this one (if I keep it oiled and out of the rain).

AmazonJohn107: Used it a few times and it’s been great. Fairly easy to put together. I have a class II hitch but it came with a class III adapter included as a nice free bonus item I’ll use for my other vehicles. This adds just enough space to get a couple of bins or golf bags out of the interior. Best car accessory purchase of the summer so far. For the price point I don’t mind that it doesn’t fold and it isn’t heavy so taking it on and off between uses is a breeze.

Tanmar: Paint is fair weather paint only... Will be rushing in no time.
Just paint it with quality paint as soon as you've assembled it and it will be fine

Kevin: I bought this cargo carrier specifically because it supported a 1 1/4" hitch, and once assembled (a bit tricky, but not too bad overall) it works well for that. It's heavier than I expected, but is quite sturdy so I can't complain.
I did have an issue that the threaded cross-hole they provide in the shank for attaching the 2" adapter was not well-centred when it was welded into place, so one end protruded slightly and prevented the trailer hitch from going in to my 1 1/4" receiver.
I had to take a grinder to this protruding ring for a few seconds to flatten it out, but after that everything works well with the hitch. I'd prefer to not have to do this on a brand-new item, bit choices are limited in the smaller shank size for carriers and this one fits the bill and works well. Stable, and held a big cooler full of food and a couple bags of firewood on our recent camping trip without issue. No problems with clearance as the step in the carrier ensures it's high enough up off the ground to not be a problem in most cases.

Nip: I don't remember the capacity of this carrier but I've carried some questionable items on it like an empty job box, a couple of barrels of horse manure, a large vintage wood stove. It's great for picking up wood. It held up to cutting wood on it but it will wiggle side to side if the load is uneven but I'm sure they all do that. The clearance is good and it has not grounded out on anything yet. Friends laugh when they see me using it like a pickup truck. A lot of weight has been rested on the outer lip and nothing has bent or cracked. I've used and abused it a number if times.

Dolphin: My 18110 Curt Cargo Carrier arrived by Purolator this morning, a couple of days ahead of the delivery window. I felt that i chose the right product for my needs because; 1…I needed the 4” rise to increase my ground clearance, and 2…I didn’t want to deal with the weight of a 500 pound rated unit. This unit weighs 28.5 lbs on my bathroom scale. A 17mm wrench is all you need for assembly but i didn't have one and had to use my vice grips. But after going over the bolts three times, I’m confident that it is tight enough and I especially like the quality locking nuts that wont easily back off (you know the kind that have some nylon inside them to increase the friction). There are some 3/4” holes in the side rails for attaching bungee cords, and I was happy that my bicycle lock would "just" fit through one of them so that i can lock the unit to the car frame to make stealing the whole shelf harder. Bungee cords could also be hooked into the expanded metal bed which i also liked. Just to verify; 19” x 47.75” is the absolute maximum cargo box you could fit on this carrier, and 31.5” is how far the shelf extends out the back of your car as measured from the center of the...
