Nick Lawton: If you're looking to build YOUR OWN property portfolio then don't read this book. The book tells you how to make money from property by either lending someone else money to build their portfolio or by becoming part of a collective investment. Both of these methods could give you a nice return, but you're definitely not building your own property portfolio. For this reason I found the sub-title 'How to build your property portfolio....' misleading.

The author runs a company investing in property and would like you to contribute to its funding. Most of the book is spent trying to explain why you'd want to do this type of investment. In other words it's a sales pitch which unfortunately I've paid to read.

Chichmode: I ordered this book to get a feel for real estate crowdfunding. I had some specific questions I wanted answered, particularly related to taxation of interest payments and how various crowdfunding offers can be compared to chose deals that optimize my risk tolerance.

First of all, I had no idea the author is based in the UK, and thus everything in the book about taxation is irrelevant to me (although, interestingly, the tax structure seems somewhat similar to that of the US). This isn't necessarily the author's fault, but I wish there was some indication of this, either in the title or description (neither is present, as far as I could tell). That said, the taxation explanation was fairly superficial. I realize most people don't want to comment on taxes because they are not 'tax experts' and that people should always consult with their tax adviser, but how will I know if my tax adviser is being reasonable about his recommendations if i can't ever learn something by myself? I wish the author would have consulted with a tax adviser when making this chapter, and make it more robust and detailed (even if they leave in the caveat about consulting your own adviser).

F. Rooney: This is a much needed publication to help guide the sheep, who having saved money throughout their working lives to provide comfort and peace of
mind in their retirement, found that the best interest rates were well below the cost of living inflation. The banks, the government and investment institutions, were no help whatsoever. Very fortunately for me, I found The Housecrowd who deal in crowdfunding to finance the purchase,
renovation and rent or sell on these properties on behalf of their subscribers for a quite modest share of the properties.
Initially, I was quite sceptical and thought that the whole idea was too good to be true. However, we have had dealings together for some years now
with very satisfactory results. Not fantastic returns, but much better than other form of investment. Frazers book is long overdue in helping to explain
how the system operates, the different types types of investments offered and how they operate. I have found " the Alternative Guide to Property
Investment, most informative and helpful in understanding how property crowding operates.

Kindle Customer Michael Cunnington: An excellent guide to property investment explained in simple terms which are easily understandable. Crowd funding is an enjoyable way of investing in real estate without involving loads of paperwork and reducing but not eliminating risk.

Amazon Customer: A good introduction and credible history shows the author has been there, done that, got the t-shirt and knows what he is talking about.
The chapters are short and concise with a very useful summary footnote to refer back to at later points.
The use of jargon is restricted and when present is explained in layman's terms
With the easy read writing style, you wouldn't think he was a lawyer, (if he was then he wouldn't have been very good).
A like the way the book gives me options without telling me what I should and shouldn't be doing.
The pro's/con's are unbiased, detailed and provide enough information to allow me to make my own decisions.

If you are new to property investing, this is a great place to start.
If you have prior experience of property investing and want to know more about funding options, there is enough new content in here for you to learn something as well.

A quick, insightful, easy read.

Mark B: As someone quite new to Investing via Crowdfunding and having had very positive experiences with The House Crowd over the last couple of years I thought this would be a good read to help improve my understanding of the different types of investment and I wasn't let down. I found it to be easy to read, easy to understand and I feel much more confident when comparing the different investments available.
What could have been a really dry subject I found the author made as light as possible but still keeping it detailed enough that even experienced investors could get something from this book. Highly recommend for anyone looking to invest or add to their existing investments.
