Brian Lev: I saved a variety of beer bottles (some purloined from neighbors' recycling) and had a mini-marathon session using this cutter not too long after it arrived. I scored 4 brown bottles of slightly varying sizes & shapes, 2 green Heineken bottles, and a clear glass Corona bottle. Most bottles scored easily, although 1 turned out to be slightly out of round and I had to work to get a consistent, unbroken score line; the Heineken bottles are slightly sculpted and vary in thickness, with a very limited area for scoring -- they gave me the most trouble, but the cutter did its job. There was a scattering of glass dust & very, very small bits of glass deposited on the rig by each bottle I scored, but this was easily dumped into a heavy plastic bag (then placed into the garbage) when I was done -- make sure you wear eye protection!

For the actual "cutting" of a bottle, I found that the more concentrated the heat, the fewer unwanted stress cracks there were; I rotated each bottle with the score line directly over a candle flame, then rubbed an ice cube over the score line, repeating the procedure for varying amounts of time as I experimented. The first (brown) bottle popped in...

patrice fleuriot: This device is well built and easy to use..but I wish the L shape metal guide used to adjust the length was a little longer.
This cutter does what it is supposed to do:score.
That said, the tricky part is to separate the 2 parts of the bottle at the scoring line. Between the 3 methods, hot water, candle flame or heat gun, I have been the most successful with the latter. My heat gun did not come with a nozzle and when I heat the score line it heat too much surface and when I plunge the bottle in the cold water, the cut is not always perfect (my success rate has been about 50%) but I am pretty sure that when I will use the heat concentrator that success rate will improve. I have been using the heat for 40 seconds and it worked well (better on thicker bottles). I noticed that if you plunge the bottle in the cold water and twist it quickly it works better.
To summarize, good machine but you need to practice. I am French and love my wine, so I have a lot to practice with!!

Bri Clark: Works great and is good quality- I love that it is adjustable for varying bottle sizes. There is definitely a learning curve to scoring the glass. The directions are clear and concise, but it takes practice to getting a perfect score every time, which is really no fault of the product at all, just the user! I’ve done standard beer bottles and wine bottles and it does a nice job. If the score is not a consistently deep etch all the way around the bottle that meets end to end , the glass will not separate easily and may leave jagged edges. Again, no fault of the product! I recommend getting oil for the blade and do a couple practice runs on bottles you don’t care about to get the hang of scoring before you do a real project.

Paul G. AtlantaPaul G. Atlanta: Nice little product, but I simply can't get it to work properly.

I've cut glass before, so the concept and process is familiar to me. I've never cut bottle glass, so this is new. I have cut around six to eight wine bottles and 12 beer bottles. I've always done it sober (not after drinking the contents!) and with a clean, dry bottle. Not a single one came out right. Not one!

I've watched the video multiple times. Have the wheel adjusted as instructed, have the L bracket locked down so the score is even around. I use the hot water cold water method. I've tried hottest water from the tap, and immersing it in water that was simmered on the stove top. I've tried running cold water from the tap over the score and submerging the bottle under cold water. Neither method makes a difference. It still doesn't work.

What I end up with is a clean cut NEARLY all around but for one small area, where the glass breaks AROUND the score, and not on it. I've attached a photo of the latest bottle cut, where the break bypasses a small area. That's fairly typical of what I've gotten. Sometimes the "dip" is bigger, sometimes it's beneath the score, sometimes above it.

The...
