Create Vibrant Designs with Tulip One-Step 5 Color Tie-Dye Kits Ultimate Party Pack

ZakZak: The more I have gotten into tie dye the more people say to steer clear of this brand.
It can however be a reasonable price for everything you need to do a few shirts! Some things to keep in mind:

* I was going for heavy saturation and used a couple different kits for more colors. Even still, one kit got me through about 5 XL adult tshirts with my saturation levels.
* Be sure to prep your shirts by washing and drying them before applying the dye, then let it sit for 24 hours before rinsing.
* Watch some tutorials and be okay if the first try isn't perfect. This is not a pro level product, however its a great way to figure out if you care to invest in higher quality materials!

Not a GanderNot a Gander: The green came out much more vibrant than the other colors, but I poured the primary color powder into the mixer tube without filling the color tubes first, since the powders last for longer when they are dry, and I plan to use it slowly.
I put the dye on damp fabric, since it was almost impossible when dry (it would go in random places and drip off a lot). I also almost forgot to use the soda ash, but put it on afterwards, and it still seemed to work, although a lot of dye did seem to wash off (it was also green, so probably I just used a lot of green).

HM: Used this kit with 4 and 7 year-old grandsons. We tie-dyed pillowcases (3) and t-shirts (3) and had lots of dye leftover. Easy to use squeeze bottles, lots of elastics and plastic gloves. Colours came out nice and bright. Fun activity.

Max SMax S: We used pink, purple, green, turquoise, yellow, and black but we didn't use the red, we only used it to make the pink and purple. We made 6 shirts (3 L and 3 XXL) and still had a whole bottle of red and half a bottle of black leftover when we finished, and this was our first time so we used a little too much. I wrapped out projects in plastic wrap and set them outside on a very warm day (30C) and they were set within 4 hours, this is how they looked when I washed them out. They look great! Now, this stuff stains your skin like crazy, I was unable to get it off even with nail polish remover and my hands look like smurf hands today because I rinsed and washed without my gloves. It didn't stain my bathtub or counter tops though, which is good. Overall it was a very easy to use and fun experience. I highly recommend this 2-step type with the soda ash over the one step dyes which tend not to set as nicely.

ChellaChella: I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this Tie-Dye kit!!!! I am going to give you the full experience here, so buckle up, get ready, and everything you need to know about this kit.

Bottom Line, for those who don't want to read my whole review: This is an EXCELLENT beginner's kit for those that want to get into tie-dying. The directions are clear, it comes with everything you need, and there are a ton of resources online. I am a first-time tie-dyer and the results were wonderful. Just take not of wet vs. dry designs (more on that later - see pictures) and I suggest buying one more kit for a full range of rainbow colors. (I got this one called the Ultimate Kit and the Rainbow Kit from a local craft store. Believe it or not, Amazon's prices are cheaper than Michael's.) I would also invest in some extras to help make your experience easier. such as:

A shower curtain liner from the dollar store - this ensured everything was covered.
"Color catcher" dryer sheets, for when you need to rinse the shirts in the dryer (I'll explain later on in the review
Lots of old plastic bags

Caroline M. Alexander: I dye fibres for spinning and needed something to use on cellulose fibres, so decided to give the Tulip dyes a go. The process is easy, not too messy, and I appreciated not having to mess around with soda ash. The colours were gorgeous, but it was hard work trying to make them consistent, not that this mattered for my purposes. I also experimented with some silk I had on hand and which does not respond well to cold dye.
Due to circumstances, I was not able to rinse and wash the fibres for three weeks. The fibres I was dying are rot-proof, so that was not a problem, but I did find that the dye seems to have left a very slight coating on them so that its not as soft as fibres dyed using other methods. They may need a further wash as hand washing does not seem to be sufficient, no matter how carefully done. What really impressed me was the bright colours I was able to get on silk without using heat, most unexpected!
I still have half the dye left so will be experimenting using a heated dye bath to see if that makes a difference as I really love the colours I was able to obtain, far deeper and brighter than expected and compared to other brands and methods. My earlier attempts...
