David G.: So glad I bought this one! Although the instructions are not as clear as you might like, the prices could not be easier! Set your guides to cradle three item you ate cutting and make sure the bottle turns symmetrically. This will ensure you make a nice straight score-line. Place your bottle on the rollers and with smooth even downward pressure, slowly turn your bottle while scoring the glass all the way around. Go one more time around for good measure. Heat a pot of water to boil and take off of the heat (less than boiling water temp is best). In another pot put water and ice to create a ice water bath. PUT ON SOME SAFETY GLOVES OR MITTENS to protect your hands from sharp edges or broken glass! Place the bottle in the hot water for 40 seconds and then directly in the ice bath for 40 seconds. Repeat this process until the glass separates on its own (don't force it and be patient!) New cut edges are SHARP so be careful! Use the sandpaper to smooth the edges and enjoy!

WingedBeast: Doesn’t work. Dangerous. Every bottle we tried refused to fracture as detailed. Ended up cutting myself. Made from very cheap materials and not sturdy enough for the job.

Craig Lewis (aka barefootinbiker): I remember cutting bottles during my high school years (early to mid '70's), so I bought this little gem.
It's steel with a powder-coat or baked enamel (I don't know how to tell the difference, both are tough and scratch-resistant), and works well if you're paitient.
I had trouble with the hot to cold water method though, as in the USA, hot water is usually turned down to prevent scalding.
I thought of stove-heating the water, but decided to chance my micro-torch.
DO NOT TRY THIS if you are not adept with these torches, and wear safety glasses & heat protecting gloves if you try this method.
I take no responsibility if this fails for you and injury results. If you try something new, you must accept the risks of such actions.
That said, I completely wet the bottle, then torched over only the score mark.
Then, dipped in cold water.
Got the crack sound right away.
I then rewet the bottle, and torched only over the uncracked portion of the score.
After 3 passes, the bottle seperated, with only minor irregularities, which I filed out.

Mark: I bought this bottle cutter to make candles out of old beer bottles.

Overall this product is great for the money. It scores bottles consistently, and if you follow the instructions it is very easy to use. If you don't follow the instructions, and don't make sure everything is adjusted correctly before scoring the bottle you will have a hard time. After using mine for quite a bit (estimated 100 times) the part that scores it still seems to be as good as it was when purchased, any wear is not all that noticeable at this time.

I did have some cons with this product, since you need to adjust multiple parts for each different sized bottles that you wish to cut you will be doing a lot of adjusting. The small thumbscrews and allen wrench that you use to adjust it are often frustrating and tedious to implement. They also seem to be the cheapest part of the product and not built to last. Im worried the screws will soon be stripped and will need to be fixed. While the product claims to be able to cut all different sizes of bottles I have found that it often has trouble with thicker bottles, but I assume that is to be expected.

Jane Smith: This isn't exactly a bottle cutter - it's a bottle scriber. Once your bottle has been scribed, you use alternating hot and cold water to achieve a simple and clean break along that line. Depending on your bottle, it can be a little fiddly to set up just right, but that is to be expected when you have multiple contact points requiring this much precision (the scribe line needs to meet perfectly beginning-to-end.) It comes with a little "L" shaped allen key, and while this does work, it's not as convenient as using your own set of allen keys with better handle shape. I have key tips that fit into a screwdriver type base, and this was the most useful.

I saved up several bottles to practice. On the first scribe line, i missed and didn't get the ends lined up. On the 2nd, I got them lined up perfectly, but didn't use enough pressure to get a line would produce a clean break - it came out rather imperfect. On the 3 try, the line was clean and perfect - and you'll recognize when you get to around to your starting point by sight, but even more so by sound. It makes a noticeable crunch sound once you get back to the beginning. I like to rotate the bottle...
