It's great for experienced Djs who may need a practice Dj controller for travel. Comes with Free Dj Software (Serrato Dj Lite) and it's free features are good enough. This is certainly been worth every penny. I really recommend this Hercules Dj Controller and as you can tell, I use it on my free time. 👍

I've used a Native Instruments MKII controller for the last 13 years for indoor/outdoor events and she finally spun her last scratch.

Not only have I left Full-size, my large hands have no issue with the "Space Saver".

Addressing the title:

It took me about a week to really figure out all of its components. It comes with instructions, and when it didn’t cover something I’d go on yt. It’s perfect for taking on the go. I’m able to throw it in my backpack or purse.

Marcus J: Quick and easy connections, works great with Serrato DJ Pro. But a couple key features are missing and some annoyances. First, selecting songs and loading them into the decks require external control - would be great if they used the existing shift-key and a knob (such as the two track volume controls) to scroll and select a song instead. Second, the lights are fun but when the deck is not being used, they continue to run patterns even when the computer sleeps- annoying at night requiring you to unplug it. No re-mapping capabilities to reassign functionality in the software as well. The sound is good but I would hesitated using it on a large venue/club, headphones have a decent output but can distort if pushed. For the price, it is a fun portable deck and can easily fit in a backpack. The bass/filter option is an improvement over the competition as well.

Eric: okay so to make this into a smaller controller they had to strip some features, the most annoying thing is you don't have a cue mix knob, basically you have to hit shift to hear the left cue, the right cue, or shift to hear both plus the mix at the same time. this took some getting used to because you can't rapidly listen to all 3 channels at once to make sure your cue'd track is phrasing correctly into the outward mix. some dj's take their headphones off and listen to the monitors outside to hear their new song coming in, but i don't do this because it screws up the phrasing. this might not be an issue for every dj but i normally use the ddjsb3 which has the cue mix knob so i can rapidly switch and hear my new song coming in.

other than that, the 4 cue point buttons, autoloop, are exactly the same as the serato larger controllers. there is no scroll select button but this made me actually just start using my keyboard cuz it's actually faster anyways so i think that was a decision by hercules. another weird thing is you have to make sure after you use the high low pass filter that you bring it back to the center or it'll cut your song and make it sound lofi, it took me a...

fx options are very basic but it's not a deal breaker
would have liked to see a switch with the treble / gain knob like the bass / filter but what can you do
the main output can have a buzzing noise when silent at high volumes depending on the computer it's attached to (tried several shielded and high end cords would get a little buzz on my desktop if my amp was right at max and nothing was playing however it's fine on my laptop I have to think that's something to do with the quality of the usb or power on my desktop)
no RCA out just 3.5mm again not a deal breaker ( the audio quality is comparable to a iPhone with a dongle...

Harry R.: Read some of the other reviews here, written by people who received this product from Amazon for free, who do not seem to know a whole lot about DJ hardware and what to expect from it. I am a professional DJ, and I'd like to give my two cents. I bought this controller just for fun to see how it is. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but I was beyond pleasantly surprised. This controller comes with Serato DJ Lite, which another reviewer complained about because of the cost associated with upgrading to DJ Pro, and questioned the trustworthiness of Serato. I can assure you that Serato DJ Pro is extremely widely used and respected by pros, and although Lite has limited features and promotes upgrading to Pro, it is still very good software and its shortcomings shouldn't reflect negatively on the controller itself; especially since a Pro license is only $100, which, assuming you already have a laptop, makes your total investment $180 - an extremely reasonable price for a functioning DJ setup, seeing as a single Pioneer CDJ can cost 10x that. Anyway, upon getting the Starlight in the mail, I immediately plugged it in and got to some mixing. The knobs and pitch faders feel very high...
