Amazon Customer: Nancy has taught me so much about native plants and sustainable gardening! Great writer, great book!

Thomas E. Reed: The author Nancy Lawson writes regularly for the Humane Society of the United States. Her book raises the basic question of whether we are being inhumane when we consistently cut down and weed-out the very plants that were here when the American colonies were being created? These are the plants that our bees, butterflies, birds and many other animals know and need to survive much less thrive. Unfortunately most of us have accepted the model of well-mowed laws, a few bushes, and a very limited number of shrubs, vines, and trees. What this model has produced is little to no food, water, or nest safety for bees, butterflies/moths, and birds.
For the second year I have been learning and planting native plants will nurture wildlife and help develop the ecological food chain in my yard. In this short time I have seen a massive increase especially in the number and types of bees in my relative small yard. I no longer recall exactly how I discovered Douglas W. Tallamy's 2019 book, Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard.
Somehow I found two excellent online sources that sell native plants and provide annual catalogues: Prairie Moon Nursery and...

Patrick J. OHaraPatrick J. OHara: So far I find this book quite informative and inspirational. My greatest guidance and inspiration for taking care of the Earth and all Creation, which includes the plants and animals, comes from God’s Word the Bible.
I appreciate the pictures and the many references. I just today looked up the books from Mary Leister, “Wildlings” and the other book she published back in the 80s on Amazon.
I hope one day soon to have the type of garden and employ gardening practices that Lawson is proposing. Either my own space, or preferably working with someone that is a “Humane Gardener” as my secondary work.

Sharon Harden: If you care that species are disappearing through the invasive nature of human activity, then do something about. Start at home with your sterile lawn and transform it into a beautiful diverse landscape of nourishing native plants. Help small creature live their life, eat, and raise their young. After all, they just want those simple things just like us. This book opened my eyes to stewardship through gardening.

Mr. A. R. Lockwood: An incredible book, so helpful and humane. I'm using it now to make my allotment a place for wildlife.

Gillian Brass: This books transformed the way I garden. I have always had a love for and appreciation of wildlife but had no idea how I could take my current already abundant garden to new levels. Not only by incorporating more native species but those species that truly feed nature. Have also added an insect motel and other means of attracting even more of the essentials of nature. Thank you for this amazing book. Have shared it widely with others and it will be my #1 go-to. What I have found amazing is that many other gardening books (especially perennial books) talk nothing about how each species attract and feed the environment. They only reference the 'pests'. We've come a long way and I hope that this also transforms the gardening resource books.
